I know that every team gets injured, but this year feels like we have had worse luck in this. Even the teams we should roll over on feel like very physical games.

The team that we had to start camp would be capable of beating anyone. the guys we have lost or playing below normal:
  • Lyons and Keys dismissed probably done for their career. Their life is going somewhere else besides the portal.
  • KJ Winston, Donkoh, Ford gone for year. Donkoh had been hurt already upper body.
  • Saunders has been hurt continuously.
  • DDS, Rojas, Washington, Wylie, and Robinson hurt missing games.
  • Beamon quits team.
  • Mix in our two RBs Singleton and Allen playing hurt much of the year.
  • WR Fleming hurt recently.
  • Allar hurt v Wisky - not sure how much that still bothers him.
With all these players back at 100%, we could beat anyone, including tOSU.

Three weeks to get healthy.
Exactly. A team peaking at the right time may win it all and it may not necessarily be the the best, most talented team. That’s why this 12 team format is so much more interesting. I think if this format existed in 2016 or 2017, PSU wins a few playoff games.

Heck, I’d throw 2019 PSU in my original comment also. That team, with Journey Brown, could run the ball pretty well and seemed to be hitting on all cylinders by the time bowl season rolled around. Micah was a beast in that bowl game.

That team gave up 500 yards to Memphis. The 2024 defense is much better.

Yes. And PSU put up 396 yards rushing and 53 points. Memphis was pretty good. They had future NFLers Antonio Gibson, Kenneth Gainwell, and Calvin Austin. Their kicker was fantastic and they were coached by Mike Norvell.

Lyons & Keys = sad

The whole Winston thing is a mystery.

Saunders and Donkoh are confusing. Saunders was good enough to fair catch which made me think he would gradually get back to 100%. Donkoh was banged up but was well enough to give it another try. So how is he now done for the season?

Donkoh has a "long term injury" and it's almost December so probably done for the season.

Everyone has injuries and guys banged up at this point I'm the season. We are lucky to have strong depth at safety and Rucci is a solid backup at RT. Saunders has yet to show legitimate value at WR or punt returner so tough to call him a significant loss.

Football is a game of attrition. No team is without injury at this point in the season. Wishing to be without losses to injury is like believing everyday can be Christmas. Talent and depth are essential. PSU has done a pretty good job of developing depth. The price is sometimes continuity of performance. Injury is why it is always so insane to look at a schedule preseason and predict outcomes. Luke Fickel is getting roasted at Wisconsin. What might be their record if the QB didn't go down vs. Alabama?

I was there and will always wonder how great Journey could have been. But my recollection was seeing Memphis move the ball a lot more than the defenses we've enjoyed the past 2 seasons have permitted.

Regardless, my point was that the 2019 team would have made the playoff in this format and potentially won a game or two. At the very least, they would have had a shot given how they were playing.

The 2016 team would not have gotten shutout vs Clemson like O$U did.
