Got our a**es kicked this Olympics. We sent 592 athletes to China’s 388, but they tied us for gold medals. We easily won the overall medal count, but that’s a product of the sheer number of athletes we sent.

We have our work cut out for us with the 2028 games on our own turf. Swimming in particular.

You don't seem to realize that we kicked the world's *** in these Olympics. The most gold medals doesn't win the Olympics but even so no other country won more gold. It was truly a dominating performance.

I can't believe we can't say the word *** on here. When I saw asterisks in my post I laughed out loud. That was funny as ****.

I just don't see how any country is going to beat China in the diving competition.
They rule, and it's not even a contest.

The most gold medals is the ultimate prize, no doubt about that. The overall medals just doesn't mean that much when we send so many more athletes than everyone else.

Swimming, in particular, has seen a significant drop-off. In the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, we had 16 gold medals. It's the first time since 1988, and only the 2nd time in 40 years, that we failed to hit double digit gold medals in swimming.

So with a population of 1.5 BILLION they just didn't have enough athletes to qualify? Ok.
He finds reason the negativity in our medal count…but overlooks every other country. We sent about 60 more than France. China sent the 4th most. Their focus is more on invidual competitions. The US qualifies for multiple team sports which obviously increases the number of athletes sent.

It seems to me China has an issue getting their athletes to qualify.

Considering that 14 of China's gold medals came in artistic gymnastics, artistic swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, badminton, canoe sprint, and table tennis, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Team USA to redouble efforts there. The only evidence most Americans have that those are sports are the gold medals that appear in China's medal count every 4 years. Even China's lone track and field gold medal was in a race-walk event.

The only traditional Olympic sports that China excelled at were Boxing (3 golds), Diving (8 golds), and Weightlifting (5 golds). As Harvard mentioned above, I don't see anybody significantly closing the gap in diving. But boxing and weightlifting are two sports where Americans should be able to steal a gold or two.

I saw a video that seemed to suggest that the same Chinese diver competed multiple times as a different Chinese diver.

Boxing very likely won't be part of the 2028 Olympic games because of the poor relationship between the IOC and International Boxing Association.
