<p sizset="1" sizcache="3">According to the UT website, the school would prefer its next hire possess a bachelor's degree - but it isn't necessarily required, as it is for a few other positions currently vacant in the athletic department. That alone doesn't ensure the Vols have locked in their sights on Cal State Fullerton's
<font color="#db8e35">Dave Serrano</font>, but it obviously doesn't rule out a guy who has had his college education called into question during at least one previous search.</p>
Serrano declined comment on the position when reached by email last week and didn't return messages left by the News Sentinel on Friday, but he has spoken publicly about his Trinity College and University degree obtained in 2003 from a school that lacks accreditation after withdrawing from consideration from the Oregon job in 2007.</p>
"Both administrations knew of this, and I was told that if the worst thing they can say about my career is my level of education, then I can live the rest of my life in peace," Serrano told the Orange County Register then. "My education has never been a secret to Cal State Fullerton or (Cal Irvine). I have been upfront about it all along and they were both aware of it."</p>
