At least last night, and that's ok. Barnes has been there 9 years and has built them into a consistent winner. Lamont is in year 2 here and had us go toe-to-toe with them 2x, winning once. They are a likely #1 seed in the NCAAT and we came up short last night.

After that first half, it looked like yet another Gamecock collapse in a big game, which is something we're all too accustomed to in football. But they battled back in the 2nd half and gave UT a fight to the finish. It would have been nice to complete the Cinderella story and go from predicted worst to first, but there's nothing to be disappointed about with this team. They can still wrap up an excellent SEC season with a win over MSU on Saturday (won't be an easy one at the Hump).

We lost to UT last year 2x by an average of a little over 40 points. This year, the margin in each game was 4 points (win) and 7 points (loss). My hope last night was to win, of course. My secondary goal was to not get embarrassed if we lost. It looked it might be heading that way after the first half, but we showed our true colors in the 2nd half.

If we can bring in a legit scorer next year, that will help us a great deal.

If we beat UGA and LSU at home, last night's game would have been irrelevant.

11 point 1st half deficit was a killer. Poor shot selection and a few defensive lapses created a costly cold spell and a TN run to end the half. Cut that halftime deficit in half and this is a photo finish. The team has fight and never give up attitude which will make us competitive in the post season.

And, hey, it says something that it's being viewed as a big win by UT. Last year, we were not even a speed bump for the Vols. We offered as much resistance to them as wet toilet paper, cheap toilet paper at that. Now a win over us is considered big.

Towards the time at the end of his tenure at Texas, there was talk of Barnes wanting to leave Texas. It was during one of the times it looked like we were going to make a change, I was hoping at the time we'd go after Rick Barnes. He ended up, obviously at Tennessee. After 2 seasons there, he was 31-35 overall and 14-22 in the SEC finishing 12th and 9th in the conference and no post-season tournaments. We are fortunate to have Lamont. And he is 20 years younger than Rick Barnes.

Our team had a great season. If I told you before the season the over/under for our team was 16 wins, most of you would have taken the under. We are going dancing and we move on from there. There are no dominant teams in College Basketball anymore. So, if you told me that we are going to lose in the first round, I would not be surprised. If you told me, that we are going to get to the Final Four again, I would not be surprised. If Tennessee is the best that College Basketball has to offer this year, we can beat that.

Splitting the season with the #4 team in the country is a success. Pleased that the team fought back in the second half. That is a sign of a team that could have a successful NCAA tournament run.
