That was fun. Now give me your 2-deep at WR for 2023 *

Like much of this year, I think they will remain with two tight ends in the game for most plays so that will only mean two receivers.
KLS and Cephas (if accepted)
Wallace and Evans

This team has all the pieces pretty much everywhere to make a serious run in 2023 and 2024.

WR is the one glaring need. This room is starving for leaders. We need 2-3 gamebreakers to emerge. Do they exist on this roster? Really needed Ronnie White to choose football over baseball.
  • KLS is borderline there. Is he a true No. 1? Maybe not an ARob/Godwin/Hamler/Dotson, but he's done well these last 2 games. Can he dominate games? He's a good No. 3, but we need two guys above him who can go up and get contested grabs with the game on the line. KLS does things that others can't and he has plus-value, but we need more.
  • Harrison Wallace. Saw him as a Geno Lewis clone, and maybe he still can be, but hasn't seized his opportunities. You can see some acrobat in him, but there is a lot more to playing WR than jumping high and twisting the body for a circus catch. Need to see quality routes and consistency. Does he have enough speed?
  • Kaden Saunders came in with KJ Hamler-type hype but didn't put himself in position to contribute as a true freshman. The staff invested years in recruiting him, but it's up to Kaden to decide how he wants his career to play out. Got some props in practice near the end of the season, so he hasn't flat-lined, but may have to adjust expectations for him.
  • Tyler Johnson was an under-the-radar commit who the coaches liked at camp but we haven't heard much since he signed.
  • Anthony Ivey came in from Philly with high acclaim, some comparing him a bit to Jahan Dotson, but haven't heard a word since he signed.
  • Omari Evans showed good speed and determination, and he earned some PT, but can he evolve into a true No. 2/3?
  • Jaden Dottin was solid in the Blue-White Game and might be serviceable in spot appearances, but hard to imagine him striking fear in defenses on the perimeter.
  • Malick Meiga was worth the flyer with that combo of size and speed, but let's just appreciate his contributions on special teams.
  • Liam Clifford, Coach Stubbs gave him some praise in the back half of the season. Who knows, could be the next Graham Zug or Graham Zero.

Other contenders...
  • Cristian Driver. Switched from DB with a few games left in the season. Great genes from father Donald, but considered raw.
  • NC State WR Devin Carter who just portaled to PSU. Shows good size at 6-3, 216 lbs. thread here
  • Class of 2023 signee Carmelo Taylor who is skinny with very good speed. Maybe similar to KLS.

Only KLS deserves mention as a potential starter at this point, IMO. I like all these guys as reps of PSU, but this is the most unproven collection of WRs since the dark years in the early 2000s when Bryant Johnson finally emerged (after converting from DB). Or maybe 2005 when D-Will and J-King came in as freshmen. As a group, they're going to need to dig deep and decide who wants to step up and put in the work in the offseason to put points on the board for a playoff run in 2023.

Right now it's
Carter, KLS, and Clifford (slot)
Wallace, Evans, and Saunders (slot)
Meiga, Driver, and Ivey (slot)
Dottin, Johnson, and Taylor (slot)

Solid group. KLS must step up. Carter needs to stay healthy. Clifford and Saunders could flip after spring ball. Watch out for Driver. Kid has the genes. I wouldn't be surprised if at least 2 of these guys transfer out and that's why they are still looking for another WR. Wallace had a pretty good Rose Bowl but for that 3rd quarter drop right after the Brown interception which was a drive killer. He has got to make that catch to elevate to starter.

Too bad that Washington declared this year. Still think he only showed flashes of his true potential on the field. I wish him well, but just seems like another year could really boost his draft stock.

I think KLS (experienced), Evans (has the speed we need), Driver (has the genes) Clifford (played well in his limited reps), Wallace (potential but needs more consistency), Carter (portal in with size), Tyler Johnson (also has the speed we need), and Saunders (might have been weight/strength that was holding him back) are the group from which the potential starters will emerge. Perhaps there will be another WR portal addition to the competition?

Meiga and Dottin didn't dress last night for game. Sign of portal or injury?? Hopefully Saunders steps up next year, I think it was mentioned by one of the staff that he finally"got it" by the end of the year.

Disappointed to hear about Saunders; felt like a Parker Washington clone and it seemed like he really dominated at camps. Also, find a spot for Kalen King - best hands on the team ;).
