From EDSBS:

698 slots available; market value, $10,651 each. Care to quantify expectations for Georgia fans? Exactly 698 slots opened up for season tickets thanks to the usual attrition (death or tightened budgets, we guess,) and the going price shot up to over ten grand for each one for 2008. Ah, angsty teeth-gnashing over the toxic mixture of cash and college athletics! Wait, we're sorry, this is the SEC. ROCK OUR TICKETS DONE COST MORE THAN URS WOOOOOO!!!! Get money!

of why MSU and OM qualify as have nots in this league. Obviously, money isn't everything, but we sure are on the short end of things in comparison to a lot of our conference foes.

the average fan cant/wont pay 10k for 17ing tix. Luckily we don't have that problem and can afford to watch our beloved teams play.

We get the benefits of being in the SEC, but we'll never be able to consistently compete for championships in football. We can in basketball and baseball though, and who really cares about the other sports.

But my opinion is that it's more about those fans that "have sense" and those that "have not." I would hope that, if I ever got to an income level where dropping $10 large on one season ticket to f'n football games was like taking a ****, I'd have the sense to refrain just as a matter of policy. Ten grand would damn near send a needy kid to state for a year. A fool and his money are soon parted.

don't get me wrong, it is my favorite sport but it isn't my favorite thing to do. i could spend $10 grand on a lot of things that would be more fun and as Shmuley said...if financially capable why not pay for a scholarship for someone.

We eventually win a Championship in either of those 2 sports, (hopefully baseball in my lifetime), I will die a happy man.

Auburn's budget is about $82 million. Ours is about $32 million. They have the resources to consistently compete for football championships. We don't. That's not to say we can't ever win one. We came within 7 points of winning one in 1998 and in 1980 (Mississippi also came within 10 points of winning one in 1990).

Just kind of that they're a "Cow College" too, and I've always kind seen them as our Alabama sister.

If it's all about money, we have no shot. But hopefully, we can use what we do have wisely enough to minimize the significance of the difference. GB's current reassessment of the is a step in the right direction.

I think if we get a great coaching staff and keep our facilities up to date, our spectacularly beautiful campus will begin to attract some top recruits. I think there's a good chance we're headed in that direction now.

don't tell our recruits how you feel. They, like me, believe that if we can recruit the talent at MSU, we can win a SEC title. It does carry enough weight to play in a title game. I am a realist; but it is not how many fans you put in the stands; it is the support that your fan base provides. There are too many major colleges that have huge budgets and they consistently do not win enough games to justify the money they throw at athletics.

is another piece of the puzzle. We will rarely go over to AL, FL, LA, TN, GA and pull a blue chip recruit. We do get a lot of good players from out of state- but we loose so many great recruits to out of state programs. Hopefully we're getting better at selling the program.

The reality of being a college athletics supporter today is that donations and season tickets are what is important and all the rest is ********.

From experience though your income will increase as you get older and what was at one time a large amount of money suddenly isn't so much if you have just a modicum of success.

BAAAAAAAA.

Auburn (the poor cow college of Alabama), Florida, Georgia, UT, LSU, SC....all these teams sell out their stadiums, many at premium prices like the aforementioned $10k ticket. Meanwhile, at MSU, we can't sell out our stadium even when offering upper deck and mini pack packages.

You are exactly right. At MSU, it is not about putting fans in the stands apparently. But, you've got it wrong in thinking that we are IN ANY WAY competing with the upper echelon of the SEC.
