Tracking the chance we are extended a bowl bid if we finish 5-7.

Week 1 (with more background): https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/bowl-chances-at-5-7.1123980/
Week 2: https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/the-5-7-scenario-10-23.1134896/
Week 3: https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/the-5-7-bowl-game-scenario-10-30.1146142/#post-21162683

Boston College is officially bowl eligible. Congrats to the Eagles and they are now off the chart below. It was suggested last week that struggling Clemson be added back in, then the Tigers went out and beat Notre Dame. They are now projected to win out so it seems like their stay on this list will be short. For completions sake, I also added Wisconsin who is a win short of being legitimately bowl eligible and likely to get there on Saturday.

Of the teams without six wins, we are currently 11th in the priority list. We will move up several spots before it's all over.
  • It seems likely that Wisconsin, Clemson, Minnesota, and Auburn will for sure come off the list in the next week or two. That moves us up to 7th.
  • Cincy started 2-0 and has lost 7 straight. Unless they find a miracle in the last three weeks, they won't get to 5-7. That moves us up to 6th.
  • Northwestern needs one of their last three. Purdue is the most likely one, so if you are truly desiring for us to be neat the top of this list, you are rooting against Northwestern the next three weeks.
  • Wake Forest also needs one win. Their last home game is Saturday against NC State. Then it's on the road in South Bend and then at Syracuse. Cuse started 4-0, now has lost 5 straight. Who knows.
  • Boise needs one more to get to 5-7. They have two good shots at it this Saturday and next. If they lose this Saturday, then maybe 4-8 is on the table for them.
  • Iowa State already has 5 wins, so we can't pass them. They could of course get to 6 with a win in their last three, but none of those will be easy. That BYU game is in Provo.
  • Rice needs another win to get to 5-7. The UTSA game is their toughest one left, then two fairly even matches against Charlotte and FAU. Rice is another team you are pulling against.

There are 41 bowl games, 82 slots to fill.

11/7: 53 teams bowl eligible, 17 with five wins, 24 with four wins, 23 with three wins, 16 with 2 or 1 (Sam Houston won!)
10/30: 43 teams bowl eligible. 19 with five wins. 27 with four wins. 17 with three wins. 27 with 2, 1, or 0 (poor Sam Houston State).
10/23: 32 teams are already bowl eligible, 19 more have five wins, 29 have four wins. 24 more teams sit at 3 wins.

I'm not certain, but I think we lost to KY. For the good of the program long term, im the 14th eagle fan this year. Too much risk he gets another year if we go bowling with 5 wins.

Surely he's a dead man walking regardless if we don't somehow pull off a miracle vs. A&M or UM. Would be cool to keep the bowl streak going... if we could keep enough players and coaches around for the bowl. May just be Hughes and Bump out there coaching with a few GAs.

And that USM win isn't exactly a sure thing at this point.

That is fine as long as someone else is coaching us in the bowl game. Otherwise, hope we don't make it.

The Ole Miss game is going to look a lot like Croom's last Egg Bowl, I'm afraid.

I want to keep a link to this thread after Ole Miss puts 60 points on us.

might sneak a couple of touchdowns in, but we can’t stop them from scoring it will.

Why? same guys will be calling plays. It's not like anything will be different. We aren't going to have a new staff for a bowl game.
Gets the younger guys some game action. Gives the incoming coach some extra tape. Keeps that bowl streak alive for the 5 odd times it's brought up on TV throughout the season. Sometimes the new coach coaches the bowl.

We should play in a bowl game if we're invited. Always good to get reps and experience.
