We see it in the NFL and college. Teams are putting up numbers at a record pace.

We all know MSU history. In the modern game we acted like passing the ball was impossible.

Now that we sold out to the Leach passing game, when the running game is even mentioned people act like we are going to give up on the pass.

Take a look at the stats this year. There are 35+ teams that had 2000 yards rushing and 3000 yards passing. It doesn’t HAVE to be one or the other! We should all be appreciative for all the records that WR set these past few years, but hell there is more than one way to put up yards. You don’t HAVE to throw it 650 times per season.

If Six Pack Speak were a musical, this is the song I expect to go with this topic...**

The run and the pass can be friends.

Agree with this. People overthink it with saying we have to be at a certain percentage of run or pass or whatever.

Leach and Mullen didn’t succeed offensively because of the systems that they ran. They succeeded because they were subject matter experts on a specific offense, and could teach that offense. And they also succeeded because they were overall managers that could keep an entire program in line including defense, special teams, discipline, etc. Moorhead failed because he couldn’t teach the system he knew, and because he couldn’t manage the other stuff either.

You hire someone that knows a system, can teach a system, and can tweak and perfect that system. Simple as that. Doesn’t matter at all what that system is. There are no good or bad offensive schemes, only good and bad coaches.

Passing has a direct correlation to the offensive explosion. And it's a result of all the safety rules we have now. Can't hit the QB, can't hit a WR, OL can run down the field, etc. You're almost dumb if you don't throw it around now.

True. But “throwing it around” doesn’t mean hitting some magic number of pass attempts or percentage. Its about completing a high percentage of downfield targets, high YPA, etc.
