The biggest loss we had was losing L.J. Sr as a Defensive Line Coach

He's a very good coach. My only criticism of him is that I think he tends to be too much of a player's coach.
He likes to rotate a ton...too much in my opinion. There's a decent drop after our first 5-6 DL.

Come back Saturday nite and see how we did against his rotations!

I've felt we have done well in every era on the DL . From Reid, Smear- Hartenstein , Murphy, - Clark, Millen, - Brown, Maybin, Ebiketie, Oweh, Nassib, Daquon Jones.

Where LJ made the difference was recruiting , especially withe the Bosa's and Young.

I thought coaches Spencer and Scott filled in admirably .

Agreed. He is an elite coach and it's a shame it didn't work out here. I think the only way we could have kept him was to name him HC and that wasn't happening.
Franklin offered LJ the position of assistant head coach which is the same position he has at OSU. Claims he was upset that he wasn't offered the HC position at PSU. I must have missed the other head coaching jobs he was offered. Anyone have a link?

When he was hear it seemed like our D Lineman were exceptional, recruiting as well. The OSU line has been dominant since he arrived there.
In my opinion, and to my surprise, I thought the perfornance level didn't drop at all under Spencer. The first year or two you might argue that he was doing it with LJ's players. But Chaos was here for 5 seasons iirc

Things are noticeably different since then

That is not my understanding of what LJ was offered. Might have made a difference.

LJ was interim head coach after FLO left and Franklin was hired. No games, just off-season responsibilities.

Psssst, he's still not even a DC there....put whatever lipstick you want to on it.
Exactly. Meyer bamboozled him into thinking he was getting further up the coaching chain at OSU by giving him fancy titles. But, as you say, he hasn’t even been offered the DC position there. He’s still a DL coach…and a very very good one.

LJ isn't that stupid or naive. The same year Meyer hired LJ, he also brought in Chris Ash, who had been the DC at Wisconsin and Arkansas, as co-DC.

screw Johnson for going to osu when he knew that was our rival.

he wanted to be a head coach so bad and yet he never tried for one at a less dominant school first.

He's always struck me as an opportunist. Joe plucked him from the obscurity of MD HS football and basically gave him a career at the next level. If he really wanted to be a HC he should have started with something much smaller like an HBCU or FCS

LJ Sr was one helluva HS football coach. I think he would have done just fine and PSU Football Inc would be in a very different place today
Gerry Faust was a helluva high school coach and how did that work at ND? LJ was an assistant at two visible programs, PSU and OSU, and never became a head coach anywhere.
