When he was hear it seemed like our D Lineman were exceptional, recruiting as well. The OSU line has been dominant since he arrived there.
Come back Saturday nite and see how we did against his rotations! He's a very good coach. My only criticism of him is that I think he tends to be too much of a player's coach.
He likes to rotate a ton...too much in my opinion. There's a decent drop after our first 5-6 DL.
These “what ifs” are pointless. There, I’ve said it. Carry on.oh please just stop
Franklin offered LJ the position of assistant head coach which is the same position he has at OSU. Claims he was upset that he wasn't offered the HC position at PSU. I must have missed the other head coaching jobs he was offered. Anyone have a link?Agreed. He is an elite coach and it's a shame it didn't work out here. I think the only way we could have kept him was to name him HC and that wasn't happening.
In my opinion, and to my surprise, I thought the perfornance level didn't drop at all under Spencer. The first year or two you might argue that he was doing it with LJ's players. But Chaos was here for 5 seasons iircWhen he was hear it seemed like our D Lineman were exceptional, recruiting as well. The OSU line has been dominant since he arrived there.
That is not my understanding of what LJ was offered. Might have made a difference.Franklin offered LJ the position of assistant head coach which is the same position he has at OSU. The bigger issue is in recruiting philosophy. Under Franklin is seems like he wants light fast guys. the problem is that everyone on the defense can't be under 250 lbs.

Then you would be incorrect. That is not my understanding of what LJ was offered. Might have made a difference.
Found a link and I stand corrected. Franklin offered to keep Johnson as DL coach. Despite his title at OSU, he basically is doing the same thing there. Then you would be incorrect.
Then you would be incorrect.
Exactly. Meyer bamboozled him into thinking he was getting further up the coaching chain at OSU by giving him fancy titles. But, as you say, he hasn’t even been offered the DC position there. He’s still a DL coach…and a very very good one.Psssst, he's still not even a DC there....put whatever lipstick you want to on it.
LJ isn't that stupid or naive. The same year Meyer hired LJ, he also brought in Chris Ash, who had been the DC at Wisconsin and Arkansas, as co-DC.Exactly. how do you conclude this?LJ Sr was one helluva HS football coach. I think he would have done just fine and PSU Football Inc would be in a very different place today
Gerry Faust was a helluva high school coach and how did that work at ND? LJ was an assistant at two visible programs, PSU and OSU, and never became a head coach anywhere.LJ Sr was one helluva HS football coach.
