The "buzz" around this game really reminds of the 1995 UT game

That year, our offense had put up some huge numbers leading up to the Tennessee game...77, 65, 52 in consecutive weeks. We'd also scored 68 a few weeks prior. Gameday was at the CU/Nebraska game but I was watching and they got to talking about our game, and all the talk was about offense. I remember Lee Corso in particular. He talked about Brad Scott taking over as OC at FSU and how that revolutionized their offense, then he talked about the number of games it took for Charlie Ward to develop. There was a particular FSU game he mentioned that Ward just blew up and basically cemented himself as the Heisman favorite. Corso said "That was Ward's x # game under Brad Scott. Today at UT is Steve Taneyhill's x # game under Scott." It was the exact same number of games. His implication was that Taneyhill was set to blow up in the same way. All that to say, there was real hype and expectation and buzz around our offense and Taneyhill going up against Tennesee and Peyton. I, being the naive kid, I was, bought it hook, line and sinker. Also, I lived and Chattanooga, TN at the time and HAAAAAAATED UT.

Suffice it to say, as I'm sure we all recall, we got buzz sawed. 56-21. It was never a competitive game.

Sorry, I can't help it, but whenever we get some buzz like we are getting this week, my mind always goes back to that game, as I was glued to my TV watching Gameday talk about how we were poised to blow up and take a big step forward as a program. In hindsight you realize it was purely absurd to think we ever had any shot against Tennessee.

Side note: I was at our following game...the infamous 63-7 UF game. Stayed til the bitter end.

Our first College Gameday(think it was our first) November 10, 2001. Crowds hyped up, 7:45 kickoff that night vs Florida, fans attempted a "blackout" that game. Even the first quarter went well (we were up 10-3 at one point) then Florida boatraced us, the final being 54-17. Spurrier said something after the game to the extent of "all that black in the stands made the ball easier to find."

So when the hype starts building up I think back to that game and the harsh dose of reality that it was, and what my dad(who passed away in 2022) said about it. Carolina's a pretty good team but Florida just outclassed them tonight. I'm worried that we get outclassed this week.
