I'm already convinced we're winning the recruiting battles, so just wait til Spring ball gets going and I'll be convinced again that we have a chance to make the playoffs.

It feels good to feel good!
Thinking out loud…with our schedule, does 9-3 go to the playoff? Not suggesting we’re going to get there, just throwing it out there. I think OU and A&M are going to take a big step back. I think Clemp will too, as will LSU. We’d have to have a lot of things bounce our way.

Unlikely. Not that the schedule doesn't look tough, but strength of schedule and strength of record depends on how well those teams actually do. Quality wins will be determined by that.

True. I do think Bama, Mizzou, and OM are going to be really good top 10 teams.

There's no way to know until you see where everybody stands at the end of the season. Theoretically, if your 3 losses were all to other teams that made the playoffs (preferably, teams that made the playoffs with 1 or fewer losses), and the losses were close, and you had some other quality wins along the way, a 9-3 team could get in.

Put a different way, I think a 12-team playoff will feature at least one 3-loss team more often than not. It seems reasonable that said 3-loss team could have a schedule similar to ours next year.

Oh my word, 9-3??? WHERE are we getting 9 wins? If you count this year’s wins and next year’s, we may have 9.
Relax. It's just a theoretical discussion.

This will be Beamer's 4th season. Nearly all the players will be his recruits. Someone above said Missouri should be a Top 10 team next year. They are a Top 10 team in Drinkwitz,' 4th season there this season. They don't recruit any better than we do. To quote Steve Spurrier from 18 years ago: "Why not us"? Will we? I am skeptical because of the "coaching" I saw this year.

OU lost ALL their o linemen to the portal. If we can’t beat them, then we suck.

You got that right . Some people need to lay down the crack pipe. 4 - 5 wins max next year and hopefully Tanner will hire a winning coach the 3rd. time around.

This board can vacillate more than should be allowable. We've had some threads stating "Wait to the year after next",
and now on here 9-3 with a chance for playoffs.

Literally nobody said that. I figured being a Harvard guy you would have seen that.

Drink is a helluva coach. He also didn’t take over a program that had won 6 games in the previous 2 years combined. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky too. He was having lunch with a booster who was going on and on about this RB from Truman college. He begged Drink to bring him and give him a shot. Drink was reluctant, but agreed to. A year later Cody Schrader is the best RB in the SEC and one of the best in the country.

Mizzou was picked to finish 6th in the West by SEC media. Crazy. Nobody saw this coming.

The question was asked "With the expanded playoffs next year and with a schedule like ours, WOULD going 9-3 get us in the playoffs?" Nobody predicted 9-3, just asked if 9-3 would get us in IF that were to occur with that schedule. Not really that difficult to grasp, imo.

Nobody said which part ?
If it's the second part post #1 amd your own post #2 raised the possibility of 9-3, and playoffs?
I think post #1 was tongue-in-cheek (the title of the thread even implies he had a pretty good buzz going). Post #2 was a question about whether a hypothetical record would qualify us for the playoffs. It was not a prediction - it even added the specific caveat that he wasn't suggesting it would happen. Let's just have some fun.

Which is why I said some posters were "talking" and did not say predicting.

Ok ok. I clearly said I didn’t think we’re going 9-3. More of a hypothetical. Does a 9-3 record against a schedule like ours get in?

That thread was not my finest moment…but damned if it doesn’t happen every year! I’ll probably have a similar one next August. 😂
10-2 might. 9-3 is probably on the outside looking in.

That would be impressive since they've been in the East since they joined.

The buzzer buzzing is always preferable to the buzzer clanking, whizzing, whirring, or whistling. The change will be "encouraging", as the Ole Ball Coach liked to say. I hope we see it....

I agree with you. When he brought App. State to W-B, it was obvious to my layman's eyes that the Mounties were a well-coached team.

I saw somewhere that you said Missouri should be a Top 10 team next season. Are they that young this season?

So you’re ready to throw Coach Shane in the trash? WOW? Shane is our guy. I think he could be here 30 years if he wanted to. We will get better each year.

If hisnstipulation is correct, and we win 4 or 5 games next year, would you still feel that way though?

His thought is based on 2 straight losing seasons.

I know all this speculation is fun. I enjoy reading all the opinions both positive and negative. However, no one knows what is going to happen next Fall. The Cocks will field a completely different team for the most part. The same is true for our opponents. I always think about the fine print on all investment offers: "past performance does not reflect future results". After all, how many of you honestly thought back in September that Georgia would not make the four team playoff?
