The D didn't have their best stuff against Mizzou but kudos to them!

It wasn't their best night. The pass rush never really found its footing, which may be a testament to Mizzou's OL. Mizzou ran the ball quite well against us and their offense held the ball for nearly 32 minutes.

But...they came up absolutely huge in two critical moments.

We were clinging to a 7-6 lead when Sellers missed badly on a pass that was picked off by Mizzou at our own 29 yard line. The lead, presumably, vanished at that point as Mizzou was sure to come away with at least 3. But the D held them to -3 yards on 4 plays that resulted in a missed FG. Disaster averted.

Then in the 2nd half, Beamer's disastrous 4th down call deep in our own territory gave Mizzou the ball inside our 40 with us holding onto a 9-point lead, with Mizzou holding all the momentum in the game, having just scored a TD to trim our halftime lead. They bent, allowing Missouri to get down to our 7 yard line, but stiffened up and held them to a FG. Damage minimized.

I think their OL was just that good. We did manage to get through the line several times with our pass rush and chased Cook around a good bit but he was too elusive, expected it, etc..... he had his own Houdini moments. The good news is that out of our last 3 games, Mizzou is the best team out of the 3, imho.

I agree... probably wasn't the D's best game; however, Mizzou was just 1-9 on 3rd down conversions, and the sack and INT on the last two plays of the game all were crucial contributions from our D. It was nice to not have to completely rely on the defense to get a win. Shows progression on the other side of the ball.

If you told me our Defense would be so much less disruptive than normal, I would have been really concerned about winning.
It happened exactly that way, but the offense rose to the occasion.
So much for us being strictly a defensive team - we are now a balanced team!
