The man who called some of the best defenses in Gamecocks history and recruited some of its greatest players has stories to tell.
Ellis Johnson served as position coach, coordinator, and head coach at the college level during a career that spanned four decades. His unique resume includes stints at both Alabama and its archival at Auburn. He coached at Clemson before later joining the ranks of its rival at South Carolina, where he was a key catalyst in the program’s historical run under Steve Spurrier.
The Winnsboro native played his college football at The Citadel and spent his formative years of coaching in the Palmetto State’s high school ranks.
