That’s glorious.
So this rule exists in HS and NFL but not NCAA. As an old HS official, our region instructor had a funny way to explain what would happen in a HS game:
First, one team coach asks for a free kick after fair catch. Then you go spend 15 minutes with the other coach explaining what will happen, and that yes, they can get three points. Then you line the players up. This could take up to 10 minutes. After the kick, if it goes through, send a runner up to the press box to explain that yes, the kicking team does indeed get three points
Now keep in mind I was officiating before social media made everything viral. So it’s likely that most people in the stadium would have never even heard this was an option.
