The latest Marcello blog post is too easy for even Coach34 to post about.

But apparently not for me.

So Stansbury doesn't want to do away with divisions in the SEC....who woulda thunk it?

"Stansbury said he would be “flexible” in about the possibility of
expanding the conference season by two games, but he’d rather have more
room to wiggle with his non-conference schedule.
Even with that hint of flexibility, Stansbury maintains that he’s staunchly against abandoning divisions."

wants to keep living off of those SEC West Champion banners. God knows that's the only banner that is going up, so abolishing the divisions would put an end to that.

Just don't put those SEC West banners as feathers in your caps if you so choose but I still like winning them. Of course, they are "plastic" championships.

Coach 34 is paranoid against Stansbury plus anybody who disagrees with him. I also believe if they do it with basketball, they should do it with all sports, then let the top two play in football. This year the SEC West will be much better than the east other than the Pro team, Kentucky.

Where was the bitching about South Carolina playing in the SEC title game even though they were no better than the 5th best team in the conference, and arguably the 6th best.

The top 5 teams in the west were arguably better than everyone in the east last year in football. I know it has been a little more balanced in football and baseball, but i say reseed the tourneys maybe as a first step rather than abolishing the divisions in some sports and not others.

I think the East has won the season series against the West 12 of 13 years or some **** like that- it's ridiculous

In football you aren't playing everyone, and the SEC will never expand to that. In basketball and baseball, you are seeding for a tournament, so divisions don't matter much. In basketball, everyone makes the tournament, so they really don't matter because everyone has a chance to win it on the court. I wish baseball would expand to 30 SEC games so then it would be easy to get rid of divisions.

I agree with abolishing the divisions in basketball. Aren't we the only major conference that hasn't already done this? It's pretty pointless really except for has patdog said "plastic trophies". I don't know about other conferences in baseball, so I can't comment too much. In the current system for baseball I like having the divisions, but it could easily be abolished by increasing the amount of SEC games.

I think the benefit of having divisions is the opportunity to have two additional division races without diminishing the conference championship.

I think you can add the two additional games without a problem. You can continue to play 2X against your division, 1X against the other division, and then pull the additional two games from the other division based on either a mathematical formula based on last year's standings or traditional rival model, or perhaps a combination of both. Even without divisions, an 18-game schedule only allows you to play seven of the conference teams twice.

I would like to see the seeding changed in the conference tournament though - probably just seed the division champions 1 and 2 and then everyone else 3 through 12.

Seems like everyone of those "needed just one more win to make the NCAAs" years were seasons in which we won or were 2nd in the West and got a bye in the tourney.Getting rid of the divisions for the tourney seeding would have helped us those years. </p>
