I’d be interested to see if the fans that complain about the players sitting out bowl games and transferring so easily are the same fans that complained when coaches would switch jobs.

This is what so many fans wanted. They didn’t realize how it would impact the game. They wanted players to be paid thinking there wouldn’t be tampering and transfers based on $$. Crazy how much the game has changed.

I wasn’t fond of the NIL stuff. They get a free education and perks that few others get. If they were going to get paid, I believe the NCAA, courts, school, or all of he above should have decided on the hours that the payers were in practice, games, and training and pay them a working wage for those hours. You could have paid the revenue sports a higher wage, but the wage and hours to be paid are the same regardless of school.

As far as transfer portal, I’m iffy on that. I do agree that often kids commit to play for a coach. If that coach breaks his commitment, then the kid should be able to transfer without penalty. I also believe that we have all made a poor decision, and sometimes the kid is convinced a program is a fit when it’s not. However, think we can all agree that it has gone sideways.

Well, we did reap the rewards more than we lost in the portal last season. Will be interesting to see next year. And we all want Beamer to do a good job in the portal. So it’s a mixed bag.

It’s kind of like middle school dating. Sometimes it works out with your crush (or so I’ve heard from others who had success in middle school 😂)... Sometimes your crush really just used you for leverage.

I had no problem with the portal initially because coaches leave. I had a kid sign a loi many years ago and before she could get on campus, the coach left... two weeks after she signed. That was just dirty in my mind. The portal was good for the players without being bad for the game... at least not enough to matter. Now combined with NIL, i believe the portal is destined to tear the game apart. The NIL took what was a remedy in my book and turned it in to a cancer.

I didn't and knew it would ruin college football. We're seeing it happen.

My family and I are enjoying college football more than ever. I'm good with NIL and the portal. I played college ball and would have loved to have NIL and the ability to transfer semi-freely. I played JC my first two years so in a way, I did get a free transfer year.

Was never a fan of NIL. When you compare a true student to a “student athlete” the amount of extras the SA receives is way more.

The Transfer Portal that is looked upon as a good thing. The true impact should be shown for all to see. It was either on 107.5 or Fan Talk in Charleston that talked about the number of TX last year. I think it was around 3,000 transferred and 1,700 were left without getting picked up. The number is huge when it comes to players who left a full ride to have nothing.

Last item that really doesn’t get mentioned is what the player is supposed to be in college to obtain- education, a degree. All that is talked about is the $$$$$$$. So how about this, if NIL and the $$$$$ is the main focus make these dudes pay for their chance to play FB. They aren’t there for the education, so pay like any other student. The scholarship can then be saved for another player or walk-on.

I never minded coaches switching jobs. That's their career....they should do what is best for them.
I have 100% been against any kind of "real" payment system and transfer portal as is and knew this would happen....as I think most figured it might.
"Pizza money" for football players paid out by the univ. due to big football-related responsibilities prohibiting an actual job to be held.... as Joe Pa put in his book 30 years ago....with a max of $2,000 per player per year or something...sure.
One-time transfer rule (one time max ONLY) with no sit out period if a HC or Coordinator leaves the school would be fair also. But this wild, wild west stuff is for the birds.

Of course....people love free money that they don't earn. I will take some as well.
Problem is....it will ruin the business of college football. It further tarnishes and taints it (as bad as it was and at times has been in the past). When those doing stuff were caught, they paid (some) price.
But, SC fans and all others alike show up to cheer on the uniform...not that interchangeable #21 number on the uniform.
It's great you're enjoying CFB more than ever....but it is undoubtedly the worst product I have seen in the last 35 years or so of paying attention to it.

Don't watch. Pretty simple. I have watched for 35 years and I strongly disagree.

Well it looks like NIL and the portal are here to stay. So it's clear to me the NCAA needs to modify the rules to prevent total chaos. Things like limiting scholarship money for players with NIL deals and limiting the number of times players can transfer will help. I do think it's sad that there are players jumping in the portal that lose their scholarships and do not make it to another team. This fact alone may slow down the mass exits we're seeing now. Again, that's just my take. I could be wrong. What's your opinion?

It's kind of a double edged sword, you would think the teams with the most nil money would go straight to the top and stay there, look at TAMU how much money they put up for recruits last year and then look at where they are now, I have seen up to 22 defections. I can see the players point of view with the big tv contracts and coaches salaries and the players being the product everyone is paying to see, but there have to be some transfer rules or your going to have to relearn your squad from year to year. It's a mess for sure!

I've never understood how when arguing compensation for players and them wanting 'their piece of the pie', how sight is lost (as if it isnt relevant) on the value and reward of tuition, room, board, use of various facilities and on and on. That and the value of the stage itself (sport) provided for them by the university. Without that stage (sport provided to them) their dreams would probably stay just that... dreams. Why are none of those things ever taken into account? Entitlements they certainly aren't.

Furthermore, correct me if I'm wrong, NIL money isnt any kind of piece of a pie. I hear that term thrown around a lot. Seems to me it's a whole new pie made of new money. They are not getting a piece of anything.

10000% agree that they should be forced to pay for their tuition if they are receiving over $100,000 annually. They should also pay taxes accordingly as well. This free ride BS has to stop.

From what I understand, NIL money has to come from non-university related entities such as a advertiser, etc. So taking money away from a scholarship athlete to to NIL probably would mean there’s a connection. Can’t do that per my understanding of the NIL rules.

How can there not be a connection? How many NIL deals are going to a walk-on or a regular student?

As much as people ***** about coaches, there is a buy out clause to make stop AD’s stop and ask if this is worth it. Can we afford this coach? NFL players have a buyout clause if they are under contract. What does signing day mean? Where is the clause for the school or even better the fans who again are paying for the initial scholarship? How much of an impact is it now when 3 or 4 of your 3 stars that no one wanted can now pick up and leave?

I can’t say good luck to a player who has left when our coaches let them shine and our fans put out the time and effort to cheer for them

If Lloyd is truly gone, the Gator Bowl tickets might be my last investment. ***** at me all you want but this **** ain’t worth it
