Four out of our last five series are against SEC West teams. I still think second is highly unlikely though.
Not really sure what it matters, either, unless Polk is making the comment to say a trip to Hoover is still possible. 2nd in the West is a red herring anyway. The only time divisions matter in baseball at all are in the seeding at Hoover with the a top 2 seed guaranteed. The NCAA committee couldn't care less where a team finishes in their division. Nobody's going to host just b/c they won their division or even get into a regional b/c of it. It just takes years where the balance is so far off b/w divisions for people to realize it that the divisions mean nothing.
A couple of Ole Miss fans give me the "leading the west" comments like that's somehow a big thing. 4 way tie for 2nd in the league...a distant second behind UGa. Now that actually means something....but that squad will drop like a stone after those trips to Columbia, Athens, and Lexington. No hosting for the Rebs this year...perfect timing to bring in an impact coach at MSU and watch a downturn up the road....which is why it won't happen.
Anyway...2nd in the West is highly unlikely for this squad but not out of the realm of possibility if some health issues clear up. The right teams (the other bad West teams) are there to be had.</p>
