ron Polk postgame say that he still thinks we'll finish around second place in the SEC West. I'm sure thats what he said. Someone else please confirm. I might have been the only one still listening at the time. Polks gone ape-****.

I don't think people realize how really bad the Western Division is

If the season ended today, the 8th seed would be 6-9

This could be the year a 10-20 or 11-19 team is Hoover-bound

I may not realize how bad the West is this year, but I realize how bad we are. We are at the bottom of that bad West and the SEC, as I'm sure you know. Do you think we can win 7 or so games in 5 SEC series that we have left to get to that 10-20 or 11-19 mark that could potentially get us to Hoover? I know its possible, but I honestly can't see it happening. I can't remember the last time I saw a baseball team this bad; certainly never at MSU. We are dreadful.

Four out of our last five series are against SEC West teams. I still think second is highly unlikely though.

Not really sure what it matters, either, unless Polk is making the comment to say a trip to Hoover is still possible. 2nd in the West is a red herring anyway. The only time divisions matter in baseball at all are in the seeding at Hoover with the a top 2 seed guaranteed. The NCAA committee couldn't care less where a team finishes in their division. Nobody's going to host just b/c they won their division or even get into a regional b/c of it. It just takes years where the balance is so far off b/w divisions for people to realize it that the divisions mean nothing.

A couple of Ole Miss fans give me the "leading the west" comments like that's somehow a big thing. 4 way tie for 2nd in the league...a distant second behind UGa. Now that actually means something....but that squad will drop like a stone after those trips to Columbia, Athens, and Lexington. No hosting for the Rebs this year...perfect timing to bring in an impact coach at MSU and watch a downturn up the road....which is why it won't happen.

Anyway...2nd in the West is highly unlikely for this squad but not out of the realm of possibility if some health issues clear up. The right teams (the other bad West teams) are there to be had.
