This has nothing to do with Lamont Paris and I wish him well and hope he succeeds. The issue I have is that it seems we are constantly becoming a source of bad publicity because of how things are handled here and its no wonder we got turned down by several coaches.
We have no plan with anything. You should always have a solid backup plan if things dont go well and we never do.
We want Kirby Smart..ok good choice but it didnt work because Georgia came in. After that it was clear we were clueless as to what to do and hire a failed coach who was as bad, if not worse, than we thought he would be.
We hire Holbrook thinking he would be great and he wasnt. OK, that happens. Then we put all our eggs in the basket of Kevin O'sullivan coming from Florida and we wait.....and wait.....and wait and then he decides to stay. Again, no back up plan and we get Kingston. I had high hopes but see it is not working and his media responses tell me he has no clue what to do now.
We then get rid of Frank. I know some wanted it but I didnt, I wanted to give one more year. However, hearing from Frank, we were completely wrong in how we did everything. We then go into the search and I dont know other than Sean Miller we had a plan. So again we put all eggs in that basket and it goes to Xavier. Now what? We are late on other coaches. Schools that got rid of their coach have someone in a couple of days but we scramble. Coach at Furman moves on because of how it was handled. Cleveland St coach avoids us after interview because of how we handle it. We miss out to a school about to get hit HARD with NCAA punishment on a coach. he would rather go to that mess than come here. That really said it all to me.
I dont hold any of this against Lamont Paris at all and hope he succeeds. If he does, however, it will be done in spite of our athletic department. I loved Ray as baseball coach and dont know how much is him and how much is BOT. At this point, they both need to go because it is really embarrassing to cheer for a school that is run by a bunch of bumbling idiots. It is time to quit being the laughing stock of shools.
