This comeback win within the last two minutes from a really good Purdue win will pay dividends.

Joe Pa always preached about coming back to win a tough one away. PSU did it in a primetime event. Reminds me of the old days from the pigskin and kickoff classics that PSU always seemed to win. Super excited for this year. The Running Backs are going to be a handful, and Drew Allar is going to be something special.

Joey Porter Jr is the jersey I'm going to ask for Chanukah/Christmas.

you know I was very happy for the win. PSU reminds me of a HS team I once saw. They ran maybe the prettiest 2 minute drill I've ever seen a HS offense run. That said, they couldnt block of tackle, and got steamrolled. I think we need more blocking and tackling practice. And I think we need some better teachers of that blocking and tackling.

Do you know if they're "hitting" in practice now? I know the covid year, they really backed off of hitting because they couldn't afford injuries. Is this still a hangover from that?

imo needs to get his hands on him quicker......

Thanks for sharing this. I watched the OL on the first 3 plays of the game closely where on the first 2 we gained positive yards only because of the RB. Play #1, the right guard was on the ground on his butt after the defender shed him and the defender makes tackle but RB drug him for a few yards. Play #2, left guard area, there is a defender unblocked in the hole(maybe it was RPO and they were supposed to key off this guy IDK), the RB made a move to make defender miss stopping him at LOS and defender grabbed legs to and allowed RB to gain a few yeards. Play #3, the right tackle could not block his defender and was on Clifford quickly forcing Clifford to move up in pocket and make poor pass while being dragged down.

You and I must have watched 2 different games. There were some missed tackles, but on balance the tackling was fine. The blocking was not great but IMO some of that was due to too much predictable play calling. This was an opening game on the road which Penn State won. Purdue has a very sophisticated passing game and a QB who gets rid of the ball very quickly. By today's standards giving up 24 points under those circumstances is far from being "steamrolled". Heard Urban Meyer say after the game that he thought the key to the win as Penn State's defense. But hey, what the hell does he know about football?

I guess we did. We run block poorly. No one can execute a down block and if we continue to pin and pull somebody better
Our secondary is lucky they didn’t throw a PI flag every pass play We still look out block on pass plays
And we don’t tackle very well

But hey it was a win They all count 1
