About that time, I remember hearing about The Beatles. I got home late one Friday night after a HS basketball game. It was an away game in Butler, so later than normal after midnight. I went to bed, turned my radio on and the DJ played “I Want to Hold Your Hand”. I thought, WOW, those guys are good! The rest is history.

Darn those mop tops!

I was in elementary school, I think second grade when almost everyone, mostly the older kids, on the school bus kept on talking about the beetles (mis-spelling intended) were going to be on the Ed Sullivan show. I had no clue, because I thought they were some sort of insect act. However, my older sister and I got worked up into a frenzy and worked on my parents to let us stay up past our 8:30 pm bedtime and eventually they relented and we got to view what was a life changing experience for me.

From there on I just knew I wanted to play guitar. I eventually did learn, took lessons and played in a rock band for awhile (new wave / punk / early alternative). Now all I have left is a case of GAS, aka gear accumulation syndrome. All I can do is blame those darn Beatles for this current affliction.

Winter term of my freshman year I was leaving from Mifflin Hall to go to the HUB to study, eat and listen to the jukebox. The TV room was jammed full with a line to get in.

It was not true that contemporary pop music in 1963 was banaI or bland. I was 13, and was listening to the Beach Boys, the Four Seasons and the sounds from Motown. Great stuff. The Beatles came along and quickly became such a remarkable phenomenon I was glad to have lived through it first hand

Once Brian died the song writing went pfft.
Interesting take since most believe their 4 best albums came on the heels of his dismissal (Beggars, Sticky, Let It Bleed, Exile).
In fact, I don't think Brian even wrote any of their songs, or really wanted to play anything but blues.
