PSU plays yesterday knowing that if they take care of business they are in the playoffs. They also think that they are getting a well deserved week off from practice. I am certain that Franklin would have given them the week to just lift, rest and rehab until they found out who they were playing on Dec. 8. Now, they are practicing today for a game. Oregon, on the other hand has known for 2-3 weeks that they were gonna be in Indy on Dec 7. That has to favor them. Anyway… it is bugging me, I am sure a few beers and a Steeler win will help!!

Franklin said just about everyone gets a bye regardless, it is just a matter of when. Good news is that if they lose they get a home game and rest but at the same time stay fresh and start playoffs at home. If they win well they get a longer period to work on the game but not to long.

I trust that when PSU wins this game that the CJF haters will make themselves scarce? Or must he win the Natty too?
Franklin did more with less this year as basically no one projected this. Saying that, we can make a run in the playoffs and win it all. Pretty down year as no one team is awesome. Will be at every game in the playoffs.

As a fellow Steelers fan, it could be a while before you feel better if you’re waiting for them to win.

I predicted 8-9 or 7-10 before season started. Now, I am lamenting losing to the sh*tty Cowboys and Browns. Win those 2 and they would have been looking at 12-5 or 13-4. Looks like I need more beer!

Yeah but they were mentally preparing to play the World Famous Ohio State Buckeyes.

Now they are going to face the Big Game James in a game that was foisted on him, he won’t have weeks to let it get in his head.

There are no game plans to create game breaking WRs.
Game plans aren't strictly about WR's......and I know you know this as you are quite astute on football strategy. My roommate at Ga Tech was Drew Hill....and our coach , Pepper Rodgers absolutely created game plans to develop our wr's and realized by doing that opened up space for our RB Eddie Lee Ivery.

Pepper was an option guy. Today's game is a bit different than horse and buggy days. To beat a team with superior talent and resources (Oregon) you need playmakers. PSU has none on the outside, Another way is to pound them and unfortunately we have a patchwork OL due to injuries.
PSU needs to play a near perfect game to beat Oregon. The defensive side of the ball is most critical. PSU isn't gonna win a shoot out....I don't care if Jesus Christ sends a "gameplan" Pepper Rodgers, Emory Bellard or Bill Yeomans.

Most of PSU's star players are from the #6 ranked recruiting class of 2022. He might not have OSU level talent but he had as much or more to work with than the rest of the teams on our schedule.

Next year could be a completely different story unless PSU is able to load up through the portal.

1-11 vs OSU is going to be difficult for fans to overcome.

But... A win over Oregon would be tremendous boost to CJF's reputation. A 1st round win over Indy or AZ State won't do it.

Only the really ignorant fans cannot see the health of the program right now if they zoom out of the PSU box. Moving forward hopefully they can continue the trend of being in the playoffs around 50% of the time as there are a ton of other schools trying to get in there. UW, UM, and USC won't be down for long. The SEC is loaded annually and will have good teams miss the dance this year.

The fact that people can only discuss top 5 losses and it's MNC or bust pretty much right now speaks volumes as to where he has the program. If some want to play the pity card still....they can, but IMO it's a bit foolish right now. You cannot say the program/coach is lacking when basically it's at title or bust state. We know other schools like UM, tOSU, and Oregon will outspend them too, but some PSU fans act like they drive a Ferrarri when they pay for a Corvette in this NIL age. Still a pretty sports car, but there are levels.

Let me preface by saying that I am not a Franklin hater. But please clarify.....why do you think he did more with less this year? IMO this is probably one of the 5 most talented PSU teams ever. 5 star QB, 2 talented, veteran RBs, good OL, AA tight end, possibly 3 AA on defense and a very weak schedule.

I suspect PSU is top 20 wrt NIL. A lot of schools would love to be in that position but it's not elite. I agree that making the playoffs 50% of the time would be a good goal.

IMO it's going to be very difficult for teams like Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana & Purdue to keep up. The best strategy might be to load up on linemen instead of skill players because they don’t command as much NIL.

Only difficult for fans that don’t want to let it go. Yes, I hate when our team loses to OSU, Michigan, or any team really.

But at the end of the day the Ws and L’s don’t impact my life. I am either a bit extra happy for a few days or I’m a bit bummed for about 24 hrs. I would be thrilled for our team to win B1G, advance a few rounds, ideally win it all. Would be cool to have the merch. But again, at the end of the day, doesn’t really impact me and I don’t dwell on L’s

You must be an old guy like me. I'm so glad that I don't react to wins and losses like I did when I was younger. That would be exhausting. Life is too short to expend all that energy on something that has zero impact on my day to day life.

Ever? lol. Cmon now.
maybe in the franklin era top 5.
It is his best record ever. He had two new coordinators putting in a new offense with a wr room we knew wasn’t the best. Now granted we didn’t play Michigan or another top 15 team but he has a chance to really do something this year and make a playoff run with this team.

But you said he has done more with less. I would argue that, although there were many coaching changes, that the coaching changes were equal or upgrades. So I certainly give CJF credit for some great hires. And yes....I believe the talent on thus team is right near the top ever....maybe not top 5 because of the wide outs, but at least top 10. The OL talent and depth is exceptional. So again, Franklin has done a good job this year, but I don't agree that he's done more with less. He has a great staff and a very talented team.

I’m in my early 50s. I used to take L’s of any of my favorite teams not well, go worked up, let it impact my mood for several days.

I don’t know when I exactly wised up, but I did.
