I sure hope that’s Manning. Otherwise he’s gonna get $12 million.

It means that we'll have to keep doing it with three-stars and an occasional four-stars and whatever we can scrape from the portal. Deals like the one described in the article will only be in the reach of perhaps 20-25 schools.

This could change the entire recruiting landscape and possibly rearrange the traditional powers. We need to jump into this thing with both feet and use it to our advantage if possible.

No. It will only further entrench the established powers. We could never in a million years put together an NIL deal like that.
Time for the mid-majors to form their own football subdivision.

This will hurt the football programs of "lower level" P5 schools such as Dook, Vandy, and Wake.

Hard to see anyone competing with Texas and Southern Cal. Even tOSU and Mich will be left in the dust.

I'm going to take a wait and see approach on this. Dropping 8 million on a recruit is fraught with peril, to put it mildly.
The odds are more likely for that deal to not work out then a solid return on their investment, and what are the consequences should he chose to transfer to another school ?

IMO it means, in a few years, parity will be far worse off. Careful what you wish for. Most fans were in favor of this before it happened.

I think teams that have entertained legitimate national championship aspirations over time will find ways to step up. Anyone not in the absolute top tier of constituent resources will be left behind.
Could the NCAA institute a salary cap like in the NFL?
On whom would they impose it? It's not the schools paying the players.

We have a petri dish starting to stir over on Bluff today. Rattler will stand out for us in the NIL landscape. Team cohesiveness in this new have/have not world is a concern. I trust Beamer to be as good at managing this as anybody. The value of personality and persuasion in the coaching business will be the next highly compensable trait sought in coaches.

They will need to keep players and FANS committed as this spins out of control, as you have noted it is now doing.

I wondered about the team cohesiveness stuff as well, particularly with Rattler, who hasn't yet played a down for us, but rolls into town and scores a new ride.

In the pros, it's just part of the game. The market sets your value, but you're all getting paid something. In college, you'll have guys who are making 6 figures and guys are making diddly.

The 6-figure QB knows that he has to take care of the diddly-making lineman in order to stay healthy......
