This is now a feeder program

Under the setup in place SC now is nothing more than a feeder program to the bigger and richer fb schools. The troubling direction is sending off the top talent and replacing that talent with mid level talent. Hate to be negative but under the current system winning seasons are going to become impossible moving foward.

Keeps us where we have always been historically. No better, no worse. Players have always been paid by the big $ programs. They are simply paying more than us currently.

It's frustrating but it's really just more of the same. The mid level schools like USC will continue to be mid level unless we catch lightning in a bottle as we do every few years. The down side is that bigger teams will pick off our talent.

I see what you mean but up until now, we have netted better players with this madness than what we lost. From the players we lost, who would have made us better last year ?

And alot on here were saying it would make everyone more even SMH!
I remember bleeding hearts like Heath Cline talking about college players unionizing 10 years ago. LMAO

What we got instead was extreme capitalism where the top %1 of schools and players benefit disportantly.

That's cope. We would have never be able to hold on to Clowney, Alston, Lattimore under the new rules. We are in a worst position than we've ever been in.
They only came here for one reason and that reason hasn't changed.

Many Gamecock fans thought it would be cool. I knew it would eventually destroy college athletics. It’s happening faster than I imagined. These kids better grab what they can now because the average Joe is going to tell the players and the schools to go eff themselves.

All of them
Lloyd wouldn’t have help with our OL situation. We replaced Bell’s production. Not much drop off at all from his previous years here to Knox/Simon. Burch would have helped some. The portal is not the reason for our situation this year. This is all about a DC that has failed to get his unit to play to their potential, an OL that was decimated with injuries, and the best player on the team being out all year.

I don't have a problem with NIL nor the transfer rule. That said, the two don't fit together. Even though I like the transfer rule in theory, it's going to need to change.

You're making excuses. Those were experienced starters. The guys who played this year would have been depth. Isn't Lloyd the #1 ranked NFL RB prospect? I think Bell is a top rated NFL prospect as a FB.

How is that making excuses?? I've seen the opinion that it doesn't matter who we have at RB b/c our OL sucks littered all over the board for months. And now all of a sudden it's not valid anymore. This board loved to trash Lloyd when he was here. Wasn't a tough enough runner, couldn't stay healthy, etc...No idea if he's the #1 ranked RB. If he is, some GM is going to get crushed for wasting an owner's money like that.

Ok, I will concede....we lost the top rated FB in the land. Good one.

I never said they wouldn't provide depth. But I don't think our record would be any different.

There were millions then. Get your head out of the sand. You don't think Clowney was offered big time money to go elsewhere?
It's all above board now. No head in the sand. Maybe not millions. Scam Newton's dad only got a little over $100K and he was maybe the 2nd best CFB QB ever. I don't think Bama needed to offer Clowney money. Clemson may have needed to, but he was never going there. So there's a story told by Brad Lawing on one of Kimrey's podcasts that a clemson recruiter got caught in a major violation in an audio recording with Gilmore's family and they gave that recording the USC coaches. And that's how we locked down the state for a few years.

It's all relative in terms of $ amount.
