Frank Martin did it once. But doubt it had anything to do with his coaching abilities. A group of really good players coming together made it happen. Lighting strikes when you least expect it.
“Lightning strikes when you least expect it.” Never heard that one before.

The meme threw me off. It seems to be denoting teams that have not won the championship (but for one). I thought you were referring to that.

I'm referring to the parity that has come in college basketball of late(nil yes to a degree) and that we had as of Saturday 7 of the elite 8 teams(now 3 of the final 4) that had never won a national title. No Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, UCLA, or any other blueblood for that matter. Even recent final 4 regular Gonzaga is now gone. Even with the playing field feeling more level than it has in years, our men's basketball program still can't gain any traction. Look at the teams in the SEC that have taken turns either winning the SEC Tournament and/or the regular season crown over the years and done it multiple times. We have one regular season crown way back in 1997, we haven't sniffed a championship of any kind since.

The right coach getting the right players can turn a basketball team around in a hurry. It doesn't take 4 or 5 years.

On another note, I don't get the big deal over parity. Why is everyone always pushing for parity?

Sure glad we came up with another post to trash our men's basketball program. Man, its been how long..........2.......maybe 3 days? Really.....Three Stooges Act? Please do tell how 7 of the 8 teams that have never had a championship in the final 8 makes our program look bad. 6 of those 8 teams had 20 or more wins in the 21-22 season. One of the other 2 had 19, and Kansas State is probably the only other who you could call a true Cinderella based on a 14-17 overall record last year. These were not crappy teams......with or without a championship.

SDSU (23-9)
Creighton (23-12)
Kansas State (14-17)
Florida Atlantic (19-15)
UConn (23-10)
Gonzaga (28-4)
Miami (26-11)
Texas (22-12)

Of the 8 teams in the Elite 8, how many of them had their coach fired last year, nearly every starter from that team left, and this year has a complete rebuild? Comparing this years Gamecock team to these 8 is ridiculous.

I would say playing in the final four is sniffing a championship. You can't get much closer than that, other than getting to the championship game.

When I lived in Pensacola I guy on the beach was struck by lightning under a clear sky. The bolt entered his head and exited his genitals to the ground. He died instantly. And I'm sure, least expected it.
Here lies Bill. His penis was so electric, he once shot lightning bolts out of it.

Also, my guess is there was a storm nearby. Could have been 10 miles away. But still in the area.

There is so much grey area that you’re not looking at. These posts make me want to vomit.

That's a good question. It's certainly not true that parity is _universally_ desired, even though everybody acts like it is. Alabama and Georgia aren't hoping for parity in college football. UNC and Kentucky certainly weren't looking for parity in college basketball. I don't want to see it any time soon in women's basketball and the way things are going, I'm hoping it's on the way out of college baseball too. :ROFLMAO:

In a broader context, I think there is an argument that ultimate parity would be pretty boring.

If not parity, then you do need a sufficient number of schools that invest in the sports program. Otherwise, it would be like Irmo High and everyone else a Cardinal Newman; you need some Spring Valleys and Blythewoods in there too.

While that can happen, it is rare. Usually lightening strikes are in the middle of a lightening storm where you should have a very good idea that the risk is high and be expecting the danger. Certainly most strikes are when it is very much expected, the "when least expected" is so rare saying that doesn't make sense at all to say that.

A “bolt out of the blue” can happen when you are in blue sky but a storm is 20 miles away.

So, something so rare that it's not expected happens but to say it wasn't expected makes no sense. At all. OK. 🙂
