This week will really tell us what our baseball team is

We get midweek game against UNC (#16) and weekend series against LSU (#1). If we manage to go 2-2 or better, then I will be sold on them. Right now I am still mildly skeptical due to playing a schedule that has yet to be super tough. The next few weeks tell us alot more.
Lets see what they do this week but as always... GO COCKS!!!!!!

Even if we go 0-4 that doesn't really say much at this point. We know we have a solid team...bad teams don't go 26-3 to start the year. But it is baseball, so slumps can be expected.

It's the SEC...every weekend is a real challenge against talented teams. Just look at the RPI! Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU, Carolina, and Vanderbilt all top 10. So if we lay an egg this week, there's always next week to get back on track. Just like if we go 4-0 this week, there's always next week to lay an egg.

Take two from LSU and I'm a happy camper!

On paper, LSU is better, except maybe we have a slight, very slight edge in pitching. Thank goodness we're home. I am not pessimistic, but it will take our best performances of the year so far to get 2 from them. Heck, winning 1 game will be tough. The UNC game does matter from a longer perspective. We need to be no worse than 2-2 this week.

Our schedule hasn't been crazy just yet, but our current SOS is #61. There are roughly 300 college baseball teams, so #61 is at least respectable. We have some losses on the upcoming schedule, to be sure. However, we've shown enough this year to prove a level of legitimacy. USC is absolutely a top-20 team.

I do think the UNC game matters because the midweek games have really hurt our records in the past and kept us from post season as well. It also would be a top 20 win which matters completely. Look at Coastal, they have a slightly better than so-so record but because they won midweek games against UNC, Wake Forrest and Campbell, all top 25 teams, they are now number 17 in country. Midweek games do matter so I think we need to win it. If we can take 2 of 3 from LSU that would be awesome

Would love to take game 1 on Thursday. Who's our starter, Jones or Sanders?
Sanders makes me nervous with base runners (walks/HBP's) followed by HR's due to fastballs up in the strike zone!

At this point I'm just hoping we even get the games in. Mother nature doesn't look like she wants this series happening.

Agreed. Truth is even if we lose more series than we win from here on out what matters is how we are playing as the season winds down.

I found it pretty crazy that when we started conference play our rpi was higher than all other sec teams. I was thinking our occ was pretty weak but maybe not so much. And that we came out better than just about anyone else in their ooc play kinda speaks about us being at least better than the average conference team. We may be the best conference team, who knows? Time will tell but right now i think it's fair to say we are good.

Good point. I noticed from the breakdown of LSU's quad wins that they're pretty much the same as we are.

Gonna be tough especially with Mcgillis and Hornung out. Did I hear something about Hall having a sore back? Hope not. We definitely need him

LSU might show something since it is a conference game and both teams will want to win. UNC really means nothing to either team so maximum effort won't be given by either one.

Weather is probably going to be the big winner. I'm sick of all the rain.

Hoping Hall's back issue doesn't linger.

They picked Sanders to start Thursday, Mahoney to start Friday, and TBD on Saturday. So, something is going on with Hall.
