Polk would not have... However, I don't know who this new coach will be or what he will allow. So, we'll see... if he's even on campus in starkville

If Croom or the new baseball coach forces him to pick, he'd surely choose baseball. And if he comes, he ought to be our starting CF for the next 3 years.

150 Picks in the book.

At this point the round doesn't matter. Dixon will go if the price is right.

I still think he'll go pro if he gets 10th round money (no matter what round he's drafted in). I hope I'm wrong though. I'd love to see him play both sports at MSU. And contrary to what David Murray says, it's not that difficult. Just have spring football practice Monday through Thursday and have him miss the midweek baseball games those weeks. Bingo, everybody's happy.

Edited to add that there are other ways to make it work too. If Phil Fulmer and Pat Dye could figure out how to make it work, they it ain't rocket science.

I dont think he priced himself out, I just dont think he was as highly rated by the scouts as people wanted to believe. He wasnt a top 200 player in any list i saw all year.

I've noticed that there's always some guy like Dixon or Jutin Reed that the scouts that cover Mississippi say is a surefire first round pick, and other than Wendell Fairly, it just hasn't happened.

I still think he gets drafted and then teams lowball him. Some teams may not like the emotion that he shows after hitting home runs and things like that, to. I've never seen him play, but it's very obvious that he may go over the top sometimes. And just to clarify, I'm OK with emotion, but a lot of MLB teams don't look at that as a positive.</p>

if he could have stayed in school, of course Polk wouldn't have let him play anyway.</p>

Is the draft over? I looked on MLB website and searched players from MS and didn't see him. I don't keep up with baseball, especially MLB, at all. So please enlighten me.</p>

first 6 rounds are over. There are 44 more rounds (I think) which will happen today.

He will get drafted. It is just a question of how far down he will go and if the team that drafts him offers enough money to sway him.

I think we will be a bulldog unless they offer him a Big Signing Bonus.
He is a smart kid and would love to go to Starkville with his brother.
We could have three Dixon's in 2009 on the football team, now that would be something....

I just hope Cohen let's him play football.

One player projected by some as an early-round draft pick who didn't hear his name called was Rashun Dixon, an outfield prospect from Terry High School who was named Mississippi's Mr. Baseball for 2008 by The Clarion-Ledger.</p>

Dixon has signed a football scholarship with Mississippi State, but he said last week if he were taken in the first three rounds of the MLB draft he would forgo a football career in favor of pro baseball.</p>

Dixon's mother, Velma Williams, said Thursday night her son was keeping his options open.</p>

"It depends on how far down they take him and what kind of offer he gets," she said. "It's no problem if Rashun goes to Mississippi State. If he didn't really have a backup plan, then it might be an issue. I'm fine with either."</p>
