The Bulldog Club, the MSU Alumni Association and the MSU Foundation are sponsoring a pre-game tailgate party and pep rally prior to the season opener in Ruston. Tents will be set up between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the admissions building, Hale Hall. The tailgate will kickoff with food, fun and fellowship, followed by a pep rally at 4:15 p.m. with the MSU cheerleaders, pep band and Bully. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Contact Michael Richardson (662-325-3659) for more information.

Coach Sylvester Croom and his Bulldog football team will arrive at the stadium at Louisiana Tech that day just after 3 p.m. CT. If you plan to be in Ruston, come by the locker room entrance to support the team, and then head over to the tailgate party. Game time is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. CT.

We still have tickets available in our ticket office for the season opener at Louisiana Tech. Tickets are priced at $40 apiece. Come support the team!

* * *

RV PARKING INFORMATION AT LOUISIANA TECH

The following information has been sent to us and will be of particular interest to those Bulldog fans that plan to take their Recreational Vehicles to Ruston for our season opener with Louisiana Tech.

Louisiana Tech officials will close the motor home lot Friday morning to all campus traffic and it will be available to RVs then. Here are the driving directions to that lot:

- Exit I-20 at exit 84-Tech Dr.
- Go South on Tech Drive to Railroad Ave. (at the second light underneath the railroad tracks).
- Take a left onto Railroad Ave. Go straight until you see the first road on your right which is Mayfield Ave.
- Take a right and the lot on your immediate left will be your area. There should be several officers there to signify the area.
- LTU officials indicate there are several other lots on campus near this particular lot that can also be used for parking once this lot is full.

* * *

MISSISSIPPI STATE HAS SEVERAL RV OPTIONS TOO

With gas prices fluctuating like a yo-yo, we have also tried to develop some options for RV fans when attending our home games. It will now be possible for fans that bring motor homes, with automobiles in tow, to games at Scott Field and leave the motor home in town. We have made arrangements with the Mississippi Horse Park to store RVs there between games. Please contact Bricklee Miller, facility manager of MSU Agricenter Operations, 662-325-9350, to discuss your options.

* * *

SEASON TICKET SALES CONTINUE TO RISE

We are excited to report that season ticket sales continue to soar. We have now sold more than 35,000 season tickets, a number that includes expected student season sales. With record student enrollment expected on our campus this fall (more than 5 percent growth anticipated), we may even exceed that expected number.

We are seeing an increase in faculty/staff, discounted season, and full-price season tickets. In fact, our full-price season tickets sold total is more than 1,000 tickets higher than last year.

We are offering a discounted ticket to our home opener against Southeastern Louisiana. Businesses within a 100-mile radius of Starkville have been approached with an employee opportunity to buy discounted tickets to that game, at virtually no involvement by the company. Employees can purchase the tickets on-line and print them from their home computers. Now that the plan has been tested in the local market, we want to make sure that every company has the opportunity to reward their workers with a discounted ticket to that game, Saturday, Sept. 6. Just contact Chad Thomas in the marketing office (662-325-9847) for more details.

* * *

SOCCER OPENS MSU SPORTS CALENDAR TOMORROW

Coach Neil MacDonald's women's soccer team has the opportunity to get our sports season off on the right foot when it opens its season tomorrow at the newly renovated MSU Soccer Field. If you have the chance and are in town, we encourage you to support our Bulldogs on to victory against Mississippi Valley State University. Game time is set for 7 p.m. CT.

* * *

BULLDOG CLUB REWARDS PROGRAM

Several of our fans emailed with a question about a listing in their Dog Tag account on-line that says "Bulldog Club Rewards Program." Again, thanks to the Bulldog Club and ticket office personnel, we are initiating a new program that will provide an incentive for our fans to attend and support our Olympic sports in person. For each event you attend, we will scan your Dog Tag and we will credit your account the equivalent of a $20 donation to the Bulldog Club.

We made reference to this new program a few weeks ago in this column, and we are now just awaiting the arrival of the Dog Tags. When you receive your tag, you will not only be able to support MSU Olympic sports, but receive credit in your Bulldog Club account as well.

* * *

BASKETBALL TICKETS TO SOON GO ON SALE

Our 2008-09 men's and women's basketball schedules are nearing completion and soon our season ticket information will be available. The application will appear on our web site (www.mstateathletics.com) initially and fans are encouraged to order there. A flyer will also be mailed. As we have done in the past, the top 2,500 donors who order season tickets will be contacted to arrange a time to select their seating location at Humphrey Coliseum. Those donors above 2,500, who are able to purchase season tickets, will be seated by the ticket office.

* * *

VIDEO BOARD WORK CONTINUES

Work continues amid and around the rain drops in Starkville on the new video board at the south end of Scott Field. The construction company had drilled four of the eight 42-foot deep column foundations by Wednesday and concrete had been poured in most of those footings. If we can get a break in the weather, construction will continue through the weekend. [/i]

* * *

We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. The much debated program of "attendance matters" doesn't seem to have the magnitude everyone initially thought. It appears you can build BC points by attending olympic sports. Now, I am not sure what that means. Basketball is an olympic sport. But, it doesn't seem to fit the spirit of what they are doing. I will bet that it is not included in the program, although that would be contrary to what was litterally communicated. Clearly football doesn't fall into that category. But, attendance at women's volleyball will soar.

Looks like they are going to reseat the Hump again. I thought they were only gonig to do that every couple of years. It really doesn't matter to me.

would have much of an effect. People don't want to see the "Olympic sports" and they're not going to make a special trip just to add a few fractions of a point to their Bulldog Club total. I'm sure there will be a few though, so it's probably worth doing. If they start allocating serious points for attending it might make more of a difference. But then you'd piss off all your out of town boosters because that would discriminate against them.

I always thought the Hump reseating was going to be an annual thing. They did it both years since the new seating priority was implemented (now all 3 years).

of a right to complain if someone is willing to pay money to go see a sport that usually loses us money. Im an out of towner and if I had my pick, I'd rather get passed by someone in the BC b/c they went to games rather than the fact that they simply cut a huge check. don't get me wrong..we need both.

you can't too upset for rewarding people for showing up for events that are usually poorly attended. Id still rather be passed in the BC by someone b/c they went to games rather than cut a check.

There.

You can see how many olympic sports I've been to.

But, there was a lot of either conjecture or wishful thinking posted on the board a while back about how important attendance was at basketball games and how people who attend games could move into better seats visa vi their attendance. Whether they include basketball in the scanning or not, that isn't likely to happen under the $20 worth of bonus points they are offering. It will help people move up from rank 5,467 to 5,243. If that makes them feel better and gets folks going to the rifle shooting events, then I am all for it.

Also, it was widely thought that they were going to reseat the hump the first two years and then drop the reseating back to every other year. Like I said, it doesn't matter to me.
