Received email allegedly from Ticketmaster asking for tax info so they can send to IRS. The new law re $600 transactions will now apply to sales of tickets. Their email says $600 in a calendar year but other info says $600 per transaction. Also doesn't say anything about "return of ticket cost" which should not be taxable. Any comments?

Sounds suspicious to me. I've sold tickets via Ticketmaster and received no such email. There is absolutely no reason Ticketmaster needs to see your tax info.

Looks like it will begin in 2022 and I just sold some hockey tickets.

Below is a link to Ticketmaster which explains it. It was news to me thus my suspicions. It says they need to file a 1099-K if the gross transaction amount for a calendar year exceeds $600. If you only sold at face value and the gross exceeded $600, you'd need to keep transaction records to prove there was nothing taxable. That's my take anyway but I've been known to be wrong a lot....

I got a similar email from StubHub. If I remember correctly it said that they are required to file a 1099 if there are more than 200 transactions or the transactions total $20,000. I was no where near that this year, so I ignored it.
