Will miss the rest of this years' majors. Sure makes all those "Tiger was just faking it" people look pretty silly.

Kornholer and the other guy asked him about a quote from Tiger that this was the biggest win of his career. So yeah, I think it was worth it for him.

well at least he is looking at this the right way. it would really suck if this hadn't been for a major. he is so damn competitive that i don't know if he could pull out when close to the lead the entire time...no matter the tournament.

it is one that i will definitely remember for a long time.

Tiger is bullshitting about this surgery...his knee isn't hurt. Remember? Several of you brilliant posters often pointed out during the U.S. Open that he was simply grimacing to make excuses for bad shots. Holy ****, some of you are just damn stupid.</p>

for thinking that he won't win four more majors. The guy is only 33 and is in far better physical shape than Jack was. He'll dominate golf for several more years.

"While I am obviously disappointed to have to miss the remainder of the season, I have to do the right thing for my long-term health and look forward to returning to competitive golf when my doctors agree that my knee is sufficiently healthy," said Woods. "My doctors assure me with the proper rehabilitation and training, the knee will be strong and there will be no long-term effects."
That is from this story that another poster linked. He is only 32 years old. Missing two majors this season is far from being the end of his professional career. Yes he is hurt. The vast majority of golfers deal with recurring back, knee, and wrist injuries. Until he actually retires, it would be foolish to bet against him.

In fact, the man he is chasing suffered a hip injury in his second year as a pro. Here is a brief story on Jack's chronic hip problems. Here is a telling quote from the story.
In 1963, while playing the final hole of a pro-am on the eve of a tournament, Jack mis-hit an approach shot and subsequently suffered pain in his left hip. The injury was severe enough to force Jack to endure some 23 cortisone injections over a 10 week period. Then over the ensuing decades, Jack's hip pain got progressively worse and he began a long and painful journey that ultimately ended in January 1999 when he received a ceramic-on-ceramic hip implant.

Tiger had the surgery after the Masters to repair a torn meniscus with a "known" ACL tear. I am positive without a doubt that his surgeon told him that both needed to be fixed at the same time AND that if that was the case, then his season would have been over with the Masters. I imagine that Tiger wanted to just try the meniscal repair so that he could salvage the year...

What Tiger likely did was discount the scientific evidence presented by his physician that isolated meniscal repairs in the presence of any capsuloligamentous instability stand a much less chance of return to normal function. Tiger most likely reinjured his meniscus due to knee instability secondary to his ACL tear. He will now be getting his meniscus re-repaired and a cadaveric allograft (either gracilis tendon, ACL, or achilles tendon - achilles being what I would do) to replace his ruptured ACL. His recovery time will be a minimum of 6 months with intensive physical therapy. I certainly would expect him to be near the low estimate of recovery time, but it is still an operation with significant recovery necessitated.

either way...if i were a tour player and won the british open while tiger was out for the season, i think i could still spend the money and would still enjoy my name on the plaques and trophies.
