is it possible to play tight end at 6-1, 250?

Honestly? Would you not get blown up by SEC ends?

Tight end trouble?

He'll practice well, earn the starting spot for a game or two, before Marcus Green and Nelson Hurst take over. I'm not worried about the tight ends.

The backup TE is 6'2, 230. TE is a major weakness right now due to our inablity to sign a decent one from '04-'08.

We have some questions at Center as well and now Carpenter is out for the spring with shoulder surgery.

Quote:_________________________________________________Mississippi State graduated three fifth-year senior tight ends off last season's Liberty Bowl-winning squad, dependable names like Eric Butler, Jason Husband and Dezmond Sherrod. The trio accounted for 25 catches, 274 yards and two touchdowns._________________________________________________

25 Catches by the TEs in 13 games. No wonder we can't recruit them.

Maybe you should ask Butler why there wasn't more. Maybe after he let's a ball bounce off his helmet, he will answer you.

Is it possible that he is basically the same weight as two of our 3 departed seniors and heavier than the other one?

Eric Butler, 6'3", 255
Dezmond Sherrod, 6'3" 245
Jason Husband, 6'3", 230
(MSU official site link for reference)

Now, Henderson is a couple inches shorter than all those guys, but that should have very little to do with his ability to block a defensive end. It will more likely affect his ability to go up & get a pass in the middle of the field, but since we hardly ever throw to the TE, that should not be a major concern either.

I guess I tend to think we still have Jackie type tight ends. Butler looked bigger....maybe because of the height?

But, as we all know 6'1", 250 = 5'11", 235

JAckie didn't have tight ends. He had a third tackle who wore a number in the 80s.

Didn't one of Jackie's tight ends wind up playing tackle for the Cowboys in the pros?

kendall watkins did. terrance mccaskey did. reggie kelly did. those guys were monsters. WAY more blocker than receiver. (i think the cowboys tried to move watkins to G)
