Cubs center fielder Felix Pie was scratched from the lineup today and could miss five days because of a recurrence of the ``testicular torsion'' that cost him a day of workouts early in camp.

He was to undergo an outpatient surgical procedure today to correct the problem, a procedure that originally was scheduled to coincide with the team's off day next week. The team estimates three to five days of recovery time.

Pie said he's not sure what caused the injury - essentially a twisting of the testicle severe enough to affect blood flow -- which more often occurs with late-adolescent boys.

....I had a buddy in high school that had that happen to him, and he turned as white as a sheet of paper and started vomiting and sweating in sheets. It's like getting kicked in the nuts for hours on end.

I don't want no part of it.

If he only misses five days with that he's a better man than me. Hell, I may take 2 days off of work just for reading it.

that this <17>ing hurts like hell. Had it in junior high, and one of the boys swelled up to size of a racket ball. Luckily it fixed itself before surgery. Evidently it's not that uncommon though. I transported a kid with it the other day.
