Indiana football coach Tom Allen gets new 7-year deal with $1 million annual raise - ESPN
Discussed elsewhere before, but the Cliff's Notes:
IU owed Allen roughly $5 million per year for the next 4 years .... reports indicated that Allen and IU agreed to a $15 Million lump sum, to severe their ties.
Downside for whomever hires Allen moving forward? The year-to-year payoffs typically come with "offsets" (meaning the new hiring outfit can often get a "discount" - like PSU did with Diaz - and other programs have with guys CJF cut loose). Unless such an offset was written into the settlement (I think that would be very, very rare - and very, very unlikely) no such option moving forward.
