Tom Brady says that the NFL is awash in mediocrity. He’s got a point, CFB too.

Rightly or wrongly, I give Michigan zero chance against Alabama. This implies that in my mind there are at most two elite college teams, UA and Georgia. What are the elite NFL teams? Philadelphia has the best record but, boy, they’ve played some definitely mediocre football this year. I really don’t know what to think. Iowa has a terrible offense this year, they’re not alone. They’re 10-3. PSU is 10-2, top ten. We know we’re not elite.

Agreed. I don’t know what sets it apart but it truly does seem like whoever the best team in the SEC is would win a huge majority of the time against anybody else. Being ‘elite’ in terms of being Bama and Georgia seems impossible for nearly everybody. Maybe once in a while a team would hang with them but even in 2016 I didn’t think we would hang with Bama. Clemson hung there for a few years, but not lately. Michigan is hot now, the suckeyes were true contenders for awhile. But it doesn’t seem likely anybody will regularly compete with the strongest of the SEC. But then again, PSU was pretty dominant for periods too.
