Tony Romo had the best game of his career last night

He went into the Superdome, quite possibly the most intimidating venue in the NFL right now, and quite possibly played the best game of his career. He had better games statistically in the past, but against the Saints he put that team on his shoulders and they pulled it out.

Before you laugh at him and call him names, just remember that the Saints utterly manhandled Tom Brady and Eli Manning, both Super Bowl-winning QB's and supposedly two of the best QBs in the NFL right now. Romo had the reputation of getting rattled by hostile crowds (remember the Eagles game last year?). Yet, last night he matured enough to make great plays, hitting receivers at just the right time, running for the first down when everyone was covered, and keeping the Saints defense guessing all night.

Even towards the end of the game, when the rest of the Cowboys were choking (Roy Williams missing a perfectly thrown ball on that Cowboys 3 and out, and Nick Folk shanking that chip shot), Romo was making plays that got them into position to win comfortably. Romo didn't even have the best protection last night. Flozell Adams was either holding, or letting his man go by. After the first quarter, many of Romo's passes were made while he was on the run or the pocket was collapsing around him.

And, a big shoutout to Dallas' Defense. They absolutely shut down the best offense in the NFL for 3 quarters, and when it counted sacked Drew Brees and caused the fumble. All this, with a subpar secondary (Scandrick Ellis is the Cowboy's version of Tebucky Jones, who's always getting a game-changing penalty on him if he isn't getting burnt) and Demarcus Ware playing with that nasty neck injury (I still question the wisdom of him playing so soon after that).

I'm very happy with the win, and they put themselves straight back into the Eastern Division chase. Now, let me get back to my obnoxious bragging about AMERICA'S TEAM IS THE GREATEST FRANCHISE IN ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL SPORTS. WISE MEN STILL FOLLOW THE STAR.

WHY THE HELL....is Tony Romo holding on field goals? It ended badly the last season that he had that role.

And...the Saints D you saw last night it not the one that handled the Patriots. They have a lot of injuries.

He won't be after last night. My brother, who's even more obnoxious than me, was hoping Folk could walk home to where his house is because he shouldn't even be allowed withing 50 miles of Valley Ranch.

Injuries happen to everybody this time of year. Every NFL game is like being in a car wreck. Ellis and Clancy will be back for the playoffs, but you never know who'll go down in the meantime. Drew Brees, who is the best QB in the NFC if not the NFL right now, was completely shut down for 3 quarters. The Dallas defense had him confused like nobody else did (even New England's). I still don't think Wade Phillips is a competent Head Coach, but he made his bones in this league as a Defensive Coordinator, and real dialed it up last night.

Because I noticed Dave Campo on the sidelines. He coached a strong defense there when he was the DC prior to trying out head coaching.

Say what you will about his HEAD coaching abilities, but that man knows how to coach up a defense.
