Award shows are stupid. All of them. ESPYs, Oscars, Grammys. So weird that people would sit and wait 3 hours for some actors to tell them what the best movie of the year was.

Yea, award shows have lost all their appeal - another victim of the internet/social media. People would watch in the past because it was their chance to see movie stars or musicians “in real life.” Now you can literally see these people 24 hours a day. Watching them pat each other on the back is kind of a waste of time.

Award shows, beauty pageants, parades - all things from a bygone era.

True. I seem to recall maybe watching some of the ESPY's when they first came out in the mid-90s, but like you say, that was because you got to see things you wouldn't have seen otherwise. Without internet like we have now, it was either read about it in the paper or hope to catch the highlight on TV.

And promote liberal Hollywood causes. It's now an activist event as part of every acceptance speech. Stupid!

Well, yeah, this is true of all of it. I recall when I was teen in the 90s, I thought David Letterman was downright hilarious. Now Late Night shows are just political commentary. Not that I'd have the luxury of staying up to watch a late night show now anyway, with a family and a job, but why would you wanna stay up to watch something at 11 pm just to get another dose of politics?

Johnny Carson was the man. Managed to be neutral and funny at the same time.

All the above said, I just want to say I saw the movie "Oppenheimer". It was very good, a little too long though. Emily Blunt should have won for Best Supporting Actress. She did great in that movie. She is a very good actress, married to John Krasinski (Jim Halpert in "The Office").

I used to enjoy the Oscars. I think they lost me a few years ago when that sea monster love story won best picture.

I've never understood how out of touch with reality they are.

For one, having an awards show where you award best movie would be like giving out an award for best color. It's 100% arbitrary. The best movie is the one did the best at the box office. It would be like having an NFL awards show after the Super Bowl and giving out an award to the best team, who may or may not be the team that won the Super Bow.

Also, it's beyond weird to me that people get all dolled up, walk in, pause and turn this way and that way while other people take pictures of them. So strange. Maybe only surpassed in weirdness by people at home watching on TV as other people let other people take pictures of them.

Stopped watching the Oscars years ago. Didn't like the liberal politics that all actors lectured us about. It was better before they started timing the actors with that stupid end it music just so they didn't overrun their allotted time so stations airing the Oscars could start their propaganda news on time. They did something even worse-they implemented a seven second delay so that no naughty words could reach our ears. That was the best part of the Oscars-hoping some actor would use the "F" word.
