About 2 weeks away and there doesn't seem to be much to talk about. Not like the "old" days when SOS was coach and there were always good sound bites coming out of practice.

Anyway, we kick of with Ga State this year, which is a considerable jump from last year when we started with E. Illinois, which was an unlosable game. Even with our lack of offense, we still beat them 46-0. We'll have to play considerably better to beat Ga State. It's still a game we should win, but unlike E. Illinois, it is also a game we could lose.

I'd like to see a drubbing, but am not very confident that will happen. They aren't a garbage team. It's a good game to assess Beamer's preparation of the team. Do we come out sharp and focused for an opponent we should beat? We are still too close to the Muschamp days when we looked perpetually unprepared for me to shake those bad feelings.

And, I just noticed looking at our schedule from last year that, for our final 10 games, we alternated W and L every week. Consistency!

Will you be happy with just the win or disappointed if we don't dominate them? I'm thinking with the offensive weapons we have we should score 35+.

Ummm...I mean you always want to dominate an opponent like this, but realistically, I'm just hoping to win comfortably.

It'll be interesting to see Shawn Elliot and Jamyest Williams back in Williams Brice. Planning to be there myself!

This one has me nervous but I think we win by 10 at the end. As long as our defense performs like last year we'll be ok. Add to that Strachen's gonna have the D-Line fired up to play them. I'm thinking 31-21 good guys.

I guess that brings up a related question you always have in these sorts of games: what does the final score need to look like for us to feel good about the team?

Last year, I felt we needed to put at least 60 on EIU to feel good about where we were. We ended up winning 46-0, which looked nice, but EIU is one of the worst teams we've played in a very long time, so leaving with only 46 points and fewer than 500 yards felt a bit meh. That obviously played out with the offense the rest of the season.

I can see this. Ga State is actually a good test to start with. They're going to have a good team that will take some real effort to beat, but USC should be able to (as I expect Beamer's teams to put in the effort)

Yep, it's good to start with an early win that you have to work a bit for. EIU last year was a bad opener. It was an unlosable game and didn't do much to help us as a team.

It's definitely a game that worries me. It would be just like Carolina to go out and lose to Georgia State to start a season that has so much potential.

Looking at their front 7, we should be able to pound the rock all night. I'm taking us -13.5.

Their starters on Ourlads looking like this:
DE 6'0 - 260
NT 6'0 - 270
DE 6'3 -250
OLB 6'0 215
ILB 6'0 - 230
ILB 6'0 - 225
OLB 6'2 - 245

Every time I hear stuff like this I cringe. We said the same about app state and got our teeth kicked in. Couldn’t move the ball all night. OI was at that game and I was embarrassed at how unprepared muschamp had our team looking

muschamp and unprepared are key words in your statement - may be a decent assistant but 2 time loser as a head coach

Comparing this years game to when we played app state is like comparing apples and oranges. I've put my money on the cocks -13.5. You don't have to.

GSU has nothing to lose. EIGHT men in the box forcing SC into third / long...Does SC handle pressure? A highly athletic QB who can avoid pressure and run away from pursuit? Should make for a competitive / less than easy contest....Hopeful but less than confident...

And I wasn’t just comparing the muschamp teams either or just app state. Tell me guy, when was the last time you witnessed a gamecock team have a DOMINATE O line? I’ll wait on ya

i hope ga st does exactly that. and i hope we pound it up the middle most of the game to give our guys a nice warm up for regular season. i’m taking the 13.5. our stable of rb’s vs their secondary? they wont live to see the fourth quarter.

I don’t know much about GA State other then Shawn Elliott is their Coach. And I like Shawn Elliott. But I am not over confident based off last years performance. we only beat Vandy by 1 point and the Troy game was to close for comfort. GA State could make this a scary game. Eep!

I will be at this game (super excited about that). I'll be looking for a couple of things, but mainly....GaSt is a team we should beat. A 13ish point spread is a good spread with an over/under of about 56. If we are going to turn the corner and become an elite program, we have to start turning these games into games that have a 3+ score spread and cover that spread with little to no effort. That's what elite teams do. Their seasons usually hinge on about 1 or 2 games and the rest are pretty much pre-determined.

Will I be happy with the win either way? Yes! Will I be terrified if GaSt comes in and we are still trying to decide this thing in the 4th? Yes!

pretty sure we ran up and down the field on a bunch of teams two seasons ago when Harris blew up. All I'm saying is that we should be able to pound the rock all night on GA state. You apparently think we won't, which is fine. Considering you think we'll struggle against GA state, how many wins do you think we have this year?

That wasn’t what we were discussing. I just made the statement of how we are always told the O line is better, every year we get our hopes up… and then crash. And we didn’t have a dominate o line with Harris. He was just that good and if you watched any football at all you know the o line has been a weak spot since probably Shaw and lattimore years. So… but how many wins this year? I think the team is better, I think we have improved…. 6 wins
