They just opened one lane each way on 26. Not sure about 40

26 is open but with modified traffic. You’ll have to find a different route from NC into TN as I-40 is closed at the state lines. Roughly from exits 432 in TN to exit 3 in NC. You’ll want to check some of the secondary routes too as some of them closed. But you could take 26 to 81. There may be an alternate hwy, that doesn’t take you quite that far north. Hwy 25 I think.

Why not drive to Atlanta and then up/over to Nashville via I-75 to I-24? Pretty rolling hills too.

Honestly dependung on where you are, it may be just as fast go to ATL and then up 75.

We rode up I-26 Friday. It's open, but cuts to one lane over the Nolichucky River (one strand of a bridge is out) briefly as you enter Erwin, Tenn., but no issues otherwise. Hurricane damage to warehouses, riverbed in the Erwin area is mind-boggling.

I am taking 77 north to Charlotte, then hopping on a Southwest flight west to Nashville.

This is what I'd do. The uncertainty surrounding 40 right now, I just wouldn't do it. Heck it's a pain when the road isn't closed. I can only imagine now.

What I am hearing is I 40 is indefinitely closed in several spots and the surrounding roads used as detours are experiencing a lot of semi-truck breakdowns.
