How’d it go ? I’m a strong moderate so I would prefer straight facts over feelings, that goes for both sides of this crybaby alter.

For clarification, I got rid of all social media and news apps around Christmas in an effort to “disconnect” for the new year. This app being the only exception, as I’m not sure if it is either social media or a news app. Regardless, I have no idea what’s going on in the world right now and am curious for unbiased opinions on how our new president is handling his business. I attempted to Google it but you can likely suspect how the search results went. Lot of feelings, not many facts

1 week in & he's doing what he said he would do & that's what the country voted for. He's deporting illegals, he's giving Israel whatever they wants, & he's creating leverage points to get what he wants in the future.

Off to an ok start. Went 1-1. Not super pleased with how we showed up (or didn't show up) at UT, especially after the Auburn showing, but the road is tough. Getting a win at USCe was nice though. They aren't spectacular or anything, but that was not a gimme.

Hoping Trump does better going forward. We'll see.

I quit all news back during covid, local, national and world, conservative liberal or moderate and haven't looked back. If I know of something I'm interested in I may do a search for it but as for sitting down to watch or read it, nooooooooo. The entirety of the broadcasts are commercials (usually pharmaceuticals), slanted lies both right and left, or bad news. I'm not interested in any of them.

One thing he threaten I did not like was tying aid to California to voter ID. I don't think it was real, he was postering. "Art of the deal" I do agree that there should be voter ID in every state but each state should make that decision themselves and not have emergency money heal over their head. I do agree that California does not manage money and is always having budget deficits. Any money they get, there should be a commission set up to distributed out. Newsome is a horrible governor.

Just like the first time, and so unlike other presidents from both parties, he is doing exactly what he said he'd do. There can be many discussions about whether those things are right or wrong but it is what he promised.

Very excited to bend the knee once again to our Israeli overlords. Nothing will go wrong, I’m sure

Agreed, it’s been nice to step away. I will return to X eventually, not sure any of the others will ever be necessary or ever were in the first place

Voter ID should be a federal decision. There is no downside and should’ve been required decades ago. California is a lost cause in many ways but tying aid to those in suffering for any political reason is in bad taste

I'm glad he visited Asheville, NC and let some of the local folks talk about their experiences. I like his idea of funding local emergency organizations like MEMA instead of FEMA so the response will be faster and locally managed. He is also bringing 20k troops home from Europe.

You have missed a lot.
Here is an unemotional list of what has happened, with 4 observations of mine tossed in(points 9-12).

- Trump revealed what the NJ Drones really were in the first week, as he had promised...or not
- Trump ended the Ukrainian war in the first week, as he had promised...or not.
- Trump initiated all the tariffs in the first week, as he had promised...or not.
- Trump continues to try and just take Greenland, as he indicated.
- Trump is making a bunch of federal workers work in offices, even if there are no offices for them to work in, as he had promised.
- Trump is reducing spending, as he had promised.
- Trump pardoned j6 people who illegally broke into a Federal building to stop a lawful act and beat police in the process.
- Trump is wasting money by flying people to Colombia on a military cargo jet instead of the less expensive flights that have been commonplace.
- Trump and Melania approved having their names tied to meme coins and are raking in millions of dollars in transaction fees because we have a lot of stupid people in this country.
- Trump got a handful of the wealthiest people in the world to do a 180 and financially support his inauguration...but not to curry favor...of course not.
- Trump continues to let Musk say and do whatever the 17 he wants, and is apparently cool with Musk doing clear Nazi salutes...because he is a man-child and it wasnt actually a deplorable salute, but rather a neuro-divergent's endearing attempt at expressing emotion thanking the crowd for saving America. Yeah, thats the ticket!
- Trump is using Executive Orders, the very thing he has complained about being overused countless times, to initiate a ton of pet projects because he thinks receiving 1.5% more of the vote means he has a 'mandate'.

All seriousness- it was exactly what I would have guessed. It was a bunch of handwringing and stopping DEI, and Woke, and Trans. It was a bunch of musings and causal threats directed at citizens and other countries.
It was not about stopping international wars.
It was not about making citizens safer.
It was not about making citizens healthier.
It was not about making citizens wealthier.
It was not about making housing more affordable.
It was not about making education better.
It was not about fixing a broken immigration system.
It was not about lowering grocery costs.
It was not about making our air, land, and waterways cleaner.
It was not about improving our infrastructure.

None of the issues that are substantive were addressed. It was just the first week and those issues are really difficult and complex.

I think for federal elections, there should be a minimum requirement. Too much impact from california voters to not do the basics of maintaining election integrity. I'd rather see the funding be tied to cutting back on their environmental racket and allowing humans to be prioritized in building/maintaining infrastructure, managing fires, and water use, and think that would absolutely be a fair requirement just like it's a requirement to build above base flood elevation in order to participate in the NFIP.

I still have X/Twitter. The reason is I can control the source of the information I'm interested in, I don't have to wade through nor hear from hundreds of posts by strangers that I'm not interested in hearing from. I follow some MSU sports writer accounts, a few weather accounts, some of you low lifes on this forums accounts, local law enforcement accounts, some streaming tv info accounts and that's about it. I don't know how people follow news related accounts, political accounts from either party or so called "celebrity and influencer accounts".

Find it hard to believe that deporting violent criminals doesn't make us safer. And it's pretty disturbing that we apparently knew where all these violent criminals are and just didn't want to arrest them. I personally would prefer that we not deport people that have been working here longer than 5 years if they aren't arrested for a crime, but we've had 4 years of elected oficials not even pretending to be obligated to enforce immigration law after a couple of decades of elected officials lying about their intent to enforce it. Pendulum was bound to swing and probably going to swing further than most people would prefer.

I think aid should always come no strings attached. North Coralina, California, Mississippi Coast. People should not be punished for their leaders' bad choices. Yes, they voted for them, but there are people that did not vote for them. If you want win votes send the money.

What's the 4D chess explanation for so many of the federal funds frozen that are built into law? Even if somehow he's within his rights as president, there's going to be a lot of regular people feeling the hurt very very soon.

First off, nothing I posted is opinion- all those are accurate statements of what has happened in the first week. I did add my opinion to bullets 9-12, but that is just my view of the events.

As for deporting violent criminals, yes I agree that deporting violent criminals who are illegally in the US is a good thing. I initially typed out 'substantively safer', but changed it because I figured everyone would be able to understand that we arent safer simply due to random deportations. History has shown that the overwhelming majority who are deported do not have a history of violence. Further, deportations are not being done due to proven safety concerns, so citing safety is disingenuous.

If deportations were targeting illegally residing violent criminals only, then sure you have a point.

But even then, my comment about us not being safer is about more than just the incredibly rare incidents of violent illegals. To me I view 'safer' as safer from gun violence, safer from sexual assault, safer from domestic violence, safer from abuse, etc.

Second time I've heard this statement. Not disputing it. How is one way less expensive than the other? Can't be much either way.

When you are dealing with the Pentagon, it will cost significantly more than it would otherwise - these are the guys that spent $640 on a toilet seat and $400 on a hammer.

They aren't filling up the military aircraft would be my guess. The calc I saw came out to around 10k/deportee. Not a big difference for one flight but would add up over time if they made it a habit of it.

He is overreaching, just like Biden did. This is still a pretty much an evenly divided country. A little moderation could cement GOP power for a decade, but that’s not him. At this rate he will lose the House, and possibly the Senate in the mid-terms. the WH will go back in four years. That’s just a cold eyed assessment of where I see things. It’s also no comment on any of what he has actually done. A lot of it I have liked. A lot of it I haven’t.

It sounds like a bunch of opinions out there for both sides. I will watch it all. Nothing of substance happens overnight—too many eyeballs. Nothing bad can happen with exposing what we all spend money on.

I would like the reason we flew illegals INTO this country with our tax dollars in the first place .
