4 song album hit yesterday. It's a new lusten to some old songs of theirs but it's good.
Four days. All sold out. 180K tickets.I saw Oklahoma State is having an NIL concert at their stadium with Turpike and Cross Canadian Ragweed. That would be a fantastic show!
But Mississippi State and Starkville won't have such. It's too much to handle for Poor Ole Mississippi State.Four days. All sold out. 180K tickets.
Amazing.
I like Cody Jinks, he's a little Jamey Johnson-ish. And Jamey Johnson's new album that came out about a month ago is probably his best ever too. Some pretty good stuff there.
Turnpike is puzzling to me now. Ever since they restarted their tour Evan seems to want to sing most of his songs differently (different tune and rhythm) than when they came out. I understand a little bit of it, but to do it virtually across the whole show is a bit alienating to fans. And it doesn’t sound as good. Also, whoever is mixing for their live shows is deaf. This seems to be a theme at lots of their shows lately.Turnpike got a good amount of airtime on Yellowstone Sunday. Evan really slowed them down with that S he pulled. They were about to freakin explode before the hiatus. They may not be for the masses but they could sell out anywhere almost any size in TX/Ok.
I saw them at one of the first shows back in Little Rock at Simmons Bank Arena. Not sure you could fit another person in that place and it was great energy.Turnpike got a good amount of airtime on Yellowstone Sunday. Evan really slowed them down with that S he pulled. Man, I dunno. I've seen them twice since they started touring again. The first time was in Whitefish at the Under The Big Sky Music Festival in July of 2022 which was 3 months after they started touring again. They had a few rough moments, particularly Evan with his rhythm/pace as you mey, but overall it was a great time. Ironically they went back to Whitefish this summer for Under The Big Sky and I guarantee you they filmed Yellowstone while up there.Turnpike is puzzling to me now. Yeah before the hiatus, they were always playing small venues all over DFW for like 300-500 people it seemed. Now they are putting 10,000 àsses in seats every time out. The masses definitely caught up to how good they are.I saw them at one of the first shows back in Little Rock at Simmons Bank Arena. This was since March. Two opening acts put TT to shame. One song, the reverb was so bad all you heard was a droning wah wah for the first verse. They didn’t even come out for an encore. Turned the lights on before they got off the stage. Maybe they were embarrassed. Did some poking around online the next day and saw a lot of the same feedback.Man, I dunno. Fast forward to March of 2024 and they were awesome. I had only seen them one time live before they broke up (2017/18 at a casino in Oklahoma.) My wife made the comparison of Cody Jinks being like Garth and Turnpike (Evan specifically) being more like George Strait. Cody put on an amazing show and is a compelling performer like Garth. TT was more like 10,000+ people invited to a studio session. They sounded perfect like George would.
Anyhow, not sure when/where you saw them last but on 3-10-24 they were as good as they have ever been. If I could play you a video from my phone you could hear for yourself...

Okay. I had to look it up... Seems like I may have dodged a few bullets. Lots of people in at the Boise show in March thought it was great, but some said it was off. I It's a big arena, but we were under in mez getting tons of reverb so it sounded it great, but folks right in the middle on the floor and sides said it was flat. That's the sound engineer stuff I guess. This was since March. Two opening acts put TT to shame. One song, the reverb was so bad all you heard was a droning wah wah for the first verse. Do you notice how they change the rhythm of a lot of the songs? Good Lord Lorrie and Long Hot Summer are a couple of the most pronounced examples. Huge, pet peeve of mine. Akin to famous bands only wanting to play their “new stuff.” Play what made you famous FFS.
The days of an amped up Felker sweating bullets and coming out to Mercury blaring are long gone.

Trampled by Turtles and Isbell.Just out of curiosity who were the two opening acts?
Also in Landman… so far we have watched 4 episodes and 4 songs have been featured.Turnpike got a good amount of airtime on Yellowstone Sunday. Evan really slowed them down with that S he pulled. Not disagreeing with what you saw but Isbell is far from an opening act, he may have opened for them but he's a legend in the genre. If you fly American Airlines this holiday season ( good luck) check out his concert on their entertainment channel. It's pretty awesome.Trampled by Turtles and Isbell.
TT is still one of my faves, but this was the most disappointing live performance I’ve ever seen, by far.
Is that not what Hardy was? Granted, it was only one show, but he sold out The Dude. But Mississippi State and Starkville won't have such. It's too much to handle for Poor Ole Mississippi State.
Good points. Regardless of the “opening act” semantics, my points were that 1) TT’s poor sound quality wasn’t the fault of the venue and 2) the headliner was shown up by the preceding performers. Not disagreeing with what you saw but Isbell is far from an opening act, he may have opened for them but he's a legend in the genre. Yea, I get it, one of my favs too so hopefully it was a bad night or them still gelling because the alternative sucks if he's back on the sauce.
