In 1995, when the Clemson Tigers played the South Carolina Gamecocks in their annual rivalry game, Jefferson-Pilot made the inexplicable decision to not televise the game initially, saying that no one cared about the rivalry. They were about to find out what a giant mistake they made.

When word got out, Joe Dagget - who was sports director of WIS-TV at the time - on his next sportscast urged all fans from
both schools to call Jefferson Pilot, and gave out their corporate phone number on the air.
