Grant was never in summer school, he's going to play ina summer league in New England to prove to the Reds that he can hit left handed, because for some reason our staff last year didn't let him even though he had been hitting nothing but lefty for the past three years.
considering going pro with the Reds after such a low draft selection? That seems insane. . . . 47th round (1,376th overall selection) He could do much better after Cohen turns him loose on the bases next year.
He's most likely comin back and is excited about cohen, but if he hits well from the left side this summer and the Reds raise their offer then he'll take it. If Polk and Raffo weren't so stubburn about putting Goforth in the lineup and making Grant hit from the right side only so they could have an excuse for playing Goforth early on then he woulda been drafted alot higher.
after this past season, it doesn't hurt my feelings to see any of them leave. The only guy I'd love to have coming back is a lost cause (Weatherford) but as for the rest, they can all leave as far as I'm concerned as harsh that may sound. Moore showed decent promise at the plate towards the end of the year but who can forget hm chasing the runner to 2nd base down at LSU? Gonna be interesting to see what the roster looks like shortly. I really think Cohen could do campus wide tryouts and find as much or more talent than we have returning. What's going to really be scary is what kind of pitching staff are we going to have next year with losing a 4 year guy like Pigott and also Weatherford. Then again, could it really be any worse?
Hogue never enrolled in summer school and fully intended to take the summer off and spend it in Hattiesburg before actually getting drafted, he hit 3.20 from a side of the plate that he hadn't hit from since high school, with the new coaching staff's aggressive style he should flourish.
with the way he swung the bat down the stretch, he should get a look b/c hopefully Freeman will catch almost every day.
Losing Moore isn't that big of a deal b/c we will likely suck next year anyway so having a productive senior is really irrelevant. I'd rather have the money freed up if Cohen needs it. I was glad to see Flagg sign as well.
