Well I love the way Mark Pope builds rosters. I’ll take his way any day over Cals.

i think pope would excel with talent heavy rosters, just dont think we will ever get to see it tho

Steph Curry killed Cal because Cal doesnt know how to use shooters. If he was building a roster to compete in 2010, yes.
Pope has only been cooking for us for a year and he’s been okayish on the high school recruiting level. This whole let him cook or trust in his work, well, it’s crazy for someone who is just starting and figuring things out.
I think he will be fine but acting like his record is perfect already is nuts.
Yea I have no complaints with Pope. I think he had a great season but the nostalgia and all that other stuff is behind me. I’m still on the bandwagon. I’m still excited but he’s not getting any passes on anything just because he’s a Kentucky legend.
if he starts being mediocre I’ll start feeling like any other coach that didn’t meet expectations. Like I said I’m happy with the job he’s done and job he’s doing. But he does need to reel in a top recruit. He’s at Kentucky. It’s not that hard. I’ll say that because I believe it. I’m fine with being transfer heavy and rolling with older players. But get a big dawg to throw in there with them.
It’s good for the program. I’m fine with one freshman if that’s all we get just get one. A big one that can make immediate impact.
I do trust Pope and don’t mind letting him cook(like I have a choice lol) but it is exciting to get a top recruit. Yes I do feel like the top five or ten guys can be better than a upper classmen.
sounds like I’m complaining but I’m not. I’m just a little tired of seeing us show interest in all these high profile guys and not landing any of them. I don’t count JJ and MM. Come on Pope ik you will get us some good ones this year.
I don't know why it matters as a fan whether our players come from high school, the transfer portal, Europe, Antarctica or Mesopotamia. If Pope has a vision behind what he is doing and it works out on the court, that's all that should ultimately matter. Small sample size, yes, but Pope took a roster that was preseason #43 in KenPom last year and beat Duke and Gonzaga before injuries took their toll. I think the idea of, let's put pressure on coach to play who we want or recruit who we want is silly. We already tried the "assemble the best players" thing and we have one title in the last 16 years to show for that. Until Pope shows me that he can't find the right guys, I'll trust the coach.
I don't think or mean to imply that there's a law broken.
I do think if he has signed a contract with Nike, there's an implication that he is wearing Nike on tv next season--and not Adidas.
I absolutely do not believe that Nike is going to shell out dollars to a kid that wears Adidas gear on TV. They're not a stupid company.

Your right. He more than likely will wear Nike next year. But if another school is gonna pay him way more then he will go there possibly. And on top of that..it’s kind of a flex for Nike to have a player go to a Addidas school and suit up in Nike. The Nike deal isn’t really a factor on his decision imo. If it was he would have reposted that picture with just Oregon and Kentucky.
Not trying to put pressure on him. I want these great players because I want Pope to have them. I think he’s a great coach and I want to see what he can do with top tier athletes whether they come from high school or B F Egypt. I want them as a Kentucky fan but mainly for Pope. I want to see Kentucky land the number one player in high school for him. I think he’s deserves it. Im on Popes side I support everything he’s doing 100%.
If we don’t land any of these top guys oh well I’ll still trust Pope until he starts having bad seasons. As long as he wins idc who is on the court.
I might be looking for that high like somebody else said. It’s fun to be in talks for top recruits.

He can't go to an Adidas school and wear Nike. The schools have their own contracts. You can't just go to an Adidas school and advertise Nike during their games.
The Nike thing is a massive driver of this. The fact that he signed with Nike before hand has massive implications. If the shoe company wasn't a factor, one would pick a school and then get a deal with the school's shoe company.
Again, some schools are hats on the table to keep interest in the decision. Kids don't want to show up on decision day and everyone already knows it's Kentucky. So they post graphics to lead these schools on and keep the fans invested.
We've been a hat on the table for dozens, if not hundreds of these decisions over the years. Just because you make a list or a graphic obviously does not mean you're in play. Surely you don't mean to tell me you believe every school on a graphic is still being considered.
We can certainly agree to disagree. But book mark it, this kid will 1000% be at a Nike school.
I agree with pretty much everything you’re saying. But I do feel like he could pick any of the five he listed. Not saying one or two aren’t a hat on the table. We might be a hat on the table is all I’m saying. I wouldn’t be suprised no matter what school he picks.

In year's past, events like bbm make a difference. Now its money. Someone of this caliber has an entire team of professionals advising him and millions on the table.
There are no more impulse decisions.
If I was a recruit and I went to madness…. I would see the money everywhere. The amount UK puts up compared to other programs. Besides the upfront offer you would receive, there are so many opportunities to make a ton of money.
Maybe that’s easy to see coming from a fan perspective. I wonder if some of these recruits understand it like we do.
Honestly I doubt it. Nowadays they don't even have to see potential. Its either promised up front or they don't come. If they happen into a national commercial, that's just gravy.
Its just free agency. Nothing more. You might get a little discount if they strongly prefer you, but that's about it.

It would be nice to have a kid who can go get a bucket like this again. His finishing is next level. Strength, quick jumping ability, and aggressiveness is nice to see. If he has a consistent jumper… shew. Great size too.
