Any of you that have been on the boards for many years know that I'm a big fan of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

I have tickets for a concert they were slated to give this evening. About 4.5 hours before the concert was supposed to start, I learned of this:

Ugh, Ugh, Ugh. Get better Bruce.

The only upside is that now I get to watch the Media LL team (the PA Champs) in their opening game of the LLWS.

A good friend and his wife flew up for the show from FL (he is originally from the Philly area).....so, they are really bummed.

As far as I am concerned, after the “wild, Innocent and East Steet Shuffle” he had jumped the shark. Born to Run is when he became a pop artist.

I enjoy his music but I am not a huge fan (I'm a doo-wop guy). That said, and despite my undying love and devotion to my lovely wife, I could listen to Hungry Heart all night.

The Wild and the Innocent is probably my second favorite Bruce album. One spot behind Born to Run, one spot ahead of Magic.

That’s crazy talk. Yes, he had a ton of success with Born in the USA, but he’s always stayed true to his common man themes. Did you ever listen to his Ghost of Tom Joad album?

Oh yes. Bruce is a real commoner.

Wtaf is doo wop?
Since this is a Springsteen thread, this is what Bruce said in 2012.

"But even before there was Elvis, my world had begun to be shaped by the little radio with the six-inch mono speaker that sat on top of our refrigerator. My mother loved music, and she raised us on pop music radio. So between 8:00 and 8:30 every morning, as I snowed sugar onto my Sugar Pops, the sounds of early pop and doo-wop whispered into my young and impressionable ears. Doo-wop, the most sensual music ever made, the sound of raw sex, of silk stockings rustling on backseat upholstery, the sound of the snaps of bras popping across the USA, of wonderful lies being whispered into Tabu-perfumed ears, the sound of smeared lipstick, untucked shirts, running mascara, tears on your pillow, secrets whispered in the still of the night, the high school bleachers and the dark at the YMCA canteen. The soundtrack for your incredibly wonderful, limp-your-***, blue-balled walk back home after the dance. Oh! It hurt so good.”

That, my friend, is doo-wop.

Big O found the GOTJ album to be a bit too poppy for his liking.

Magic is definitely an underrated Springsteen album.
It’s jumped over Darkness for me. I don’t think the best songs on Magic are as good as the best songs on Darkness, but it is a more consistent album for me with only one song that I skip.

4.5 hour notice sucks.

We go see performers from the 60s & 70s and have had similar cancelations when they got sick. Johnny Rivers canceled due to illness and hasn't performed since. Gordon Lightfoot canceled due to illness and he died a few months later.

Bruce is about 8 yrs younger than those guys so hopefully he's OK.
