I'll say this again, if GG Jackson is a Gamecock fan, then he would give Carolina a real long look... Paris has a very good resume starting at Wisconsin as an assistant coach from 2010-2017, Seven times in the NCAA and once with Chattanooga head coach and Akron as an assistant coach. Also at IUP Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

On April 4, 2017, Paris was introduced as the 20th head coach in Chattanooga history, replacing Matt McCall who left to become the head coach at Massachusetts.[3] During the 2021–22 season, Paris led the Mocs to a 27–8 record and the Southern Conference regular season and tournament championships. In the NCAA Tournament, 13th seeded Chattanooga narrowly lost to Illinois 54-53.[4]

On March 22, 2022, Paris was officially announced as head basketball coach at South Carolina, becoming the first African-American to lead the Gamecocks' men's basketball program. He signed a five year deal with the program and replaced Frank Martin.[5]

I agree with you, but if we miss out on GG, it won't mean recruiting will be a struggle over the next couple seasons. I think for us to land GG under Martin, we needed to show we can go to the NCAA's and when we didn't and didn't make the NIT. I think we were slipping with GG, plus there was some talk before the SEC Tourney, that some players did issues with Martin towards the end of the season.

I'm starting to like Coach Paris as I do some research on him.

I think Paris will make a very good impression on the family. Whether it will translate into a commitment remains to be seen, but at least the new coach will get a foot in the door.

The reason I say landing GG could be a catalyst is because it was stated that other players that were ranked were planning to follow him here. Without GG, it may be a struggle to get the others or at least 1 of the others. Even if we got one, neither is the caliber of GG although quality guys.

Pretty much....the decision was made last year and he got an unexpected reprieve.....and really needed to make the NCAA this year.

I saw in print someplace that Martin was informed on 3/1 that he would not be returning. He elected to coach on. I don't know what would have happened if we had made the Dance. I suppose they could have pulled the pink slip off the table. I also suppose he would have gone out and gotten himself another job anyway.

If true, that would have been plastered all over the place and coaches would use it against Carolina going hard recruiting GG Jackson... GG would have gotten phone calls, text all day, every day since March 1...

Interesting fact was that had Garnett gone to college, it would've been Carolina...He wears Gamecock attaire as I've seen him online wearing a Gamecock hat.

The last time Martin landed blue chip players, Lamont Evans was paying kids to come to USC.

Now that we can funnel cash to these kids legally, I expect some good recruits to stay in state. Big fish should be able to make more in this small pond than they could on a team loaded with 5 stars.
