It was consistently inconsistently like it has been in past years. It is what it is at this point. It's something that probably should be addressed. you obviously have a flawed system. But, we're ready to roll.

On winning more close bouts
I think we won a lot of close matches too. It's focusing on the positives and knowing we're ready to go, which we are. We'll have our best performance of the year next week.

Just win close matches. That's probably the biggest takeaway. I think it's like anything else. It's not like we learn anything new, good or bad. We have to use the time we have and the abilities these guys have developed and wrestle with enthusiasm.

We're going to go in there and give our best effort. That's what we're going to do. That's what we're going to give.

On message to team after Big Tens
I think for the most part our guys wrestled pretty well at the Big Tens. We got nine guys through, got through healthy, and we're ready to roll here at nationals. Nationals are what we focus on, and our guys know that.

On the importance of sending older guys out on top
Well, as coach, you just want to see your kids happy, and smiling, and reaching their goals. It's about being consistent for them. That's what we do. Ultimately, whether they reach their goals or not, that's up to them. We're never worried about not reaching our goals, or losing. We want to be the best we can be.

On helping, wrestlers reach the highest level
We just make sure we know they're in phenomenal shape. We have a couple days of hard training. Then, they'll get refreshed and go do their thing. At this point, it's not about motivating them to win a national title. They've wanted to win a national title.

On Berge seed
I didn't know what to expect with him. Regardless, you got to beat good guys, and if you want to win the nationals, beat everybody. I think anyone would have thought he would have been seeded higher. All the other top three place winners in the Big Ten were top-10. That comes back to the system. It's a flawed system and is what it is at this point.

On Drew Hildebrandt seed
I think his was a surprise also. Lost to two top-10 guys. but again, if you don't go take care of business you leave it up to somebody else, and a committee and a system that you just don't know what to get. Drew's fine. He has to be himself and go score some points. He can't let it come down to seconds. That's risky and you're rolling the dice. He has to wrestle to win and score points.

Anywhere you can pick up a point, you pick up a point, and that's why this is such a great race and team opportunity. You have to score some bonus points and our guys did a really nice job of that at Big Tens. At nationals, we have to wrestle to score points.

On Edsell
I think it was close. I think he was the next guy probably in and it could have gone his way, but if you leave it in somebody else's hands, that's the kind of stuff that can happen, unfortunately. I think he was a great candidate but there were some other great candidates. There's not much we can do about it now.

On how seeding process could be improved
You can look at it and see how it's done. They have a system that they follow. It's just not consistent and doesn't have a setup where you're using the wisdom and judgment of people who follow the sport on a daily basis. But, it's been like that for years. You should get what you earn. That's what the system needs to be. It's something that should be addressed in the offseason. But, this is nothing new, and I'm sure most programs probably aren't feeling great, because you see things from your perspective, We got our first-round match and we're going to focus on that.

Adverity is a blessing. It brings out strength, in you individually, in you as a team, so that really doesn't have anything to do with what you're doing next week. It's certainly not going to hurt our team effort and performance.

We just get there. That's the important thing, and be on weight at weigh ins, and we'll be good to go.

Teams mentality going into NCAAs
We're a week out, so that's not a question I can answer today, but I would say its the same. Competitors are the same every day. That's the mentality we go into every match with. We're just excited and grateful for the opportunity to compete. We have a lot to be proud of and be grateful for. We're going to go have a good time.

It’s outdated & needs to be overhauled, but likely won’t be.
You just can’t reward guys for skipping B10 tourney matches. So if they are truly hurt they can MFF, but they need to go to the bottom seeds at Nationals.
Seeding impacts everyone. I do think Berge is better than #16 after a thrift at B1Gs beating Young twice! Kerk should have been #3 but he screwed himself by losing to Cass by a second or he’d be #2. Hildebrand can blame himself. Bartlett got a nice bounce though. The other six were what was expected.
