not sure what is causing this but games that would have meant nothing when it was 4 team playoff now matter and favorites cannot execute.
The answer is obvious, ...........for the NFL bound
Kids don't want injuries while finishing the season,
and kids from the portal are essentially mercenaries.

One thing I did not think about going into the season is how the expended playoff would increase the number of upsets that therefore become very interesting on the national level.

The Texas @ A&M game will be a wild atmosphere. An A&M win will put them in the CCG vs. Georgia. Then imagine the chaos if A&M wins the CCG. A three loss conference champion with likely at-large bids for Texas and Tennessee. I otherwise can't imagine any of the remaining SEC teams getting in. ESPN would be lobbying hard for them though. And Finebaum would be so upset that he might grow hair.

You said Texas and Tennessee, but what about Georgia? I think they have to get in even if they lose the conference championship game. However, I believe that Texas will be A&M, so the question is moot.

I think head scratching losses will continue in college football until something is done about elite players sitting out for weeks, sometimes months with highly suspect injuries. Not sure what can be done to stop this but if something is done it will take NCAA & NFL to be on board.
