Almost as embarrassing as your post. ZZZZZZZZZ Penn State’s pre-season rating on USA Today and 75 cents will get me a soda out of the vending machine at work.
You must embarrass very easily. What preseason ranking would make you happy??
Agree but in today's world it helps to start in the top 20 somewhere. Still, beat Purdue and auburn and we're likely in the top 20 so no worries... B1G solves the rest.
I really do think if we had a LB crew we knew was ready out the gate, we'd be ranked higher. Plenty of time to get it going.
When you 14-12 in the last 2 seasons, this is what happens. Northwestern had the same record. They are not ranked. Win games and things will change.
I have them at 11-11 the last two seasons, and any coach that looks at that record of performance, and the corresponding lack of 5-star recruits, would probably vote them to be a very generous #27.
Where do you work that you can get a $.75 soda from a vending machine? That's 2005 pricing!
We’re going to need a much better offensive line to have amazing runs. Or a high-fiber diet.

Penn State not being ranked in the opening Coaches Poll is probably how it should start and probably not how it will finish.
Take that for what it's worth....
Well pre-season polls are not terribly valuable, I don't agree with his assertion that they are totally meaningless and the voters "dont have any idea." Something tells me Alabama will perform close to their pre-season ranking.
And exactly WHAT would be your justification for ranking them say #15 or so? Coming off such a stellar season with the same HC and QB? Given trends, #27 is a pretty realistic guess.
Agreed. We’re easily a top 26 team, minimum.
It's easier to crack the top 4 to make the CFP, than to get Herbie to vote PSU against 'Bama to play for the championship while PSU is at #25 (assuming they move up)
Some won't like this but ESPN has us at #16.

James Franklin also needs to create a strategy running the ball after finishing second-worst in the conference last season and just lost Noah Cain to LSU. Watch out for season-defining road trips to Auburn early and to Michigan in October. Ohio State comes to Happy Valley this fall.

One of the big holes in defense is Brandon Smith. I don’t think it’ll take much for the filler of that hole to be an improvement.Some won't like this but ESPN has us at #16.

I don't see an "amazing run". They could win 9 games if they beat Purdue.

It is the PSU sour grapes duality. If we have something it is by default the best. If it isn't considered the best then whoever made that judgement was in error. And if another program is clearly better it is because they cheat, don't do things the "right way", don't do it with what we label as "class" (whatever the hell that is supposed to be).
Like when Herbie spouts off complimentary BS like "best game day experience" then he is considered to be the absolute fount of knowledge. Anything else that might not be so rosy, then he is an idiot.
This duality appears to apply to all things PSU.
