When I was getting my masters at Tulane, I played intramural basketball with
Derek Mills, who won gold in the 4x400 relay at the 1996 Olympics. It's one thing to see a guy on TV, but it is amazing to see a guy that fast in person. It was like everyone else was in slow motion.
He sucked on the offensive end, but he was so unbelievably quick that we used to have him play a one-man press to disrupt the other team when they were trying to bring the ball up the court. Heck of a nice guy, too.
So, I guess you can say I partied with a gold-medal winner.
