The 2023 baseball season is over. After watcning a whole weekend of super regional baseball it to me is evident that for USC to move to the level of going to Omaha the roster at USC will need to make some changes and maybe some encouragement for some of the players on the current roster to either transfer or go into the portal. I am not going to name any names because I do not want to upset anyone. With that being said we need to get high end relievers in the bullpen. We have some pretty good relievers already but the depth there in my humble opinion is not very good. I will leave it that. Also we need more power in the lineup like say compare to Florida to where the lineup is really good. We have some players on the current roster who can defend but they cannot hit and that needs to improve. We need more high end players like a Petry, Messina and Casas. But to Mark Kingstons credit he had the 2023 team playing at a high level until all the injuries started to mount up. But lastly with our tradition, support and expectation from our fan base hopefully we can improve the roster to where it needs to be to compete at a really high level. I know that Paul Hollins son who is a player out of Lexington High School has committed to USC, but he is expected to be a high draft in MLB. His father played at USC and had a good MLB career. Hopefully he will decide to come to school. I know there are several other players who are high end recruits. But we will have to wait and see who stays, who goes and go from there.

We need to improve the talent in LF & CF, and replace SS & 2B.

We’ve got a transfer from North FL for one of the outfield spots. Dude hit .386 and had .500 OBP. Also was 20/22 for stolen bases.

Hopefully the Cannarella talk is legit. That would lock down the OF.

We’ve got a SS coming in from HS (Ellis) that looks like a legit prospect. Keeping him out of the draft will be key.
I’m not sure what to think about Casas. Outside of the UK series, he was a ghost in SEC play. In a legit CWS team, Lecroy would be an 8 or 9 hole hitter.
