Just wanted to say how good it is that the game has been competitive the last couple of years. From 2008 to 2022 there was only 1 game that was decided by single digits...it was inexplicably the 2015 game. We scored a late TD with seconds left to make it a 5 point game.

All of our wins during the streak were by double digits. 6 of the 7 on their streak were double digits. Just thought that was interesting.

I guess you take it as a positive sign that the gap is narrowing. 2022 was exciting, no doubt. Last year's game was single digits, but never felt like we stood a chance.

I can see that bc of the early miscues. Those were unfortunate. Probably a different feeling if those two mistakes didn't happen in the 1st qtr. Directly resulted in 10 points for them.

I don't care if it's 1 point or 100 a win is a win .

Sounds a lot like Tommy Bowden ... After 3 loses by 1 point we were 6 points away from being undefeated .. bah bah bah
I agree, just saying the rivalry is a little more juicy when the games are competitive. After the 4th win in our streak I didn't talk much smack to my clem folk. Likewise during their 7 game streak. It's just not too fun. It's much better when you go into it not knowing what to expect.

I just think the goal should be to win a Conference Championship .
Using Clemson as a benchmark will not get there.
Number one question that should be ask when a recruit commits.. Will he help us win against Uga or Bama .
Spurrier had the right idea when he got here he removed everything/anything associated with Clemson.

The next time I strap on pads and play for the Gamecocks, I'll keep that in mind. And you (and Spurrier) are right in that if you can play toe to toe with the top teams in the SEC, the games against Clemson will likely fall into place.

Fortunately, since I'm just a fan and have no impact on my team's performance, I can still maintain an interest in our rival and look forward to that game most of all.

Agreed, competitive games are better all around.

Nah, I'd rather beat them like rented mules every season. The larger the margin of victory the better. Run it up!

Being competitive is better than getting blasted every year though.

I guess "being competitive" is better than getting thumped every year but I don't believe in moral victories. There isn't a column in the statistics for "almost won" or "barely lost".

Clemson is a good enough program that if we can beat them regularly we can beat pretty much anyone in the SEC on a given day.

I agree and as long as Dabo is there they are likley to stay pretty good. When I say competitive games I don't mean moral victories i really mean a competitive series where neither teams losses 5-7 games in a row and neither team is blown out by 4 TDs or more. Each decade is 5-5 or 6-4 one way or the other and both team wins 8+ games each year and 10+ some years.

Wait. I thought we all said Clemson would be a bottom feeder in the SEC. We should focus on UGA, Kentucky, Vandy, Mizzou, etc.

I've always said they would be a "good" SEC team i.e. Missouri, Ole Miss, recently Tennessee. They wouldn't be a bottom feeder and they probably wouldn't be a top three team very often. I think they'd be about like UGA under Richt, talented and dangerous but not elite.

No moral victories. But it did suck not getting excited about the game. Or, realizing the game was over after the 1st quarter.

I've always hated a close, hard fought, nail biter loss worse than being beaten by a team that you know is simply a better team.

That's weird.
No, a one or two point close loss tears out my heart because I know we were as good as the other team and could/should have won the game. I can always think back to one or two plays that probably cost us the game. In a loss to a dominant team, I know we did our best but the other team was better and nothing we could have done would have won the game.

So you'd prefer Muschamp's 56-7 gem to the 23-21 L in 2007? That's wild to me.
